Broken is a totally new story from the last one. My own new story.

1) The Reason Miranda Left

Miranda Samson absently played with a lock of her golden brown hair as she studied her Chemistry textbook. She hated studying and anything to do with work. She’d done a lot just bothering to even show up to class. She’d considered cutting class lots of times but had decided against it and this was how they repaid her, with loads of homework. She closed the textbook and grabbed her sneakers. She wanted to go run but she wasn’t allowed after her last attempt to run away. I might as well, Miranda thought to herself and reopened the textbook. She had nothing better to do and she, as far as she was concerned, only had to stick it out until she reached 18, which was about 2 years away. Miranda was 5 feet, 6 inches tall and had piercing, gray eyes. She had perfectly crafted cheekbones and full, red lips. She was athletic and ran a lot. She took a look downstairs and looked for any of her parents’ cars. She wanted to run again and this time, they wouldn’t catch her. She put on her sneakers and snuck past her older brother Drake’s bedroom. Drake was home from college at 20. He was 6 feet exact and had the brown eyes of their mom. He had blond hair which was always in a disarray and stubble around his mouth. He was even more athletic and therefore, had much more muscles than Miranda. He’d stop her from running if he knew what she was doing despite the fact that he always defended her choices against their parents. Miranda went out the door in the kitchen leading to outside. Miranda looked at the road ahead, and ran like the wind.

“How could you let your sister leave like that?” Mr. Jake Samson, Miranda’s father, was outraged. “I didn’t let her leave. Though the way this family is so messed up, I would too,” Drake retorted. His father, Jake had left his mother, Elisabeth for a young man about 5 years older than Drake himself about 2 years earlier called Gregory Egan. Drake thought Gregory was cool but he despised his father for leaving his mother like that. Gregory and Drake had a lot in common, like passions for soccer and their favorite video game which also had to do with soccer. However, Drake knew Miranda couldn’t wrap her mind around the fact that Jake had left Elisabeth for another man, especially one so close to Drake’s age. Miranda had started running away and declining in behavior that year but Drake had never pointed this out. He’d talked to Miranda several times but every time he had, Miranda had snubbed him and called him a traitor for befriending the ‘man who ruined our lives’. Elisabeth was in the corner, reading her book while Jake scolded Drake and tried to blame him for Miranda’s running away. Elisabeth had lost herself since Jake left her. She’d fallen into a deep, horrible depression which no one could get her out of. Everyone saw it except Jake himself, who was too wrapped up in keeping Gregory with him to notice her. Drake probably figured Jake was worried about how it would get around in Ripley, Connecticut, how he’d lost Miranda once again. Jake wanted to be the Mayor and fancied himself as Harvey Milk but if he couldn’t be responsible for one kid, how could he be trusted with a whole neighborhood? “Listen, Drake, we have to keep this secret,” Jake said. Drake nodded, dumbly. “Therefore, I need you to go to New York City and stay with Aunt Bette, and look for her. Miranda always loved New York and Aunt Bette. We’ll say you and Miranda went to scope out colleges with your aunt,” Jake explained. Drake agreed and Jake pulled him into a hug. “Please find her,” he said desperately, “Try your best.” Drake nodded against Jake’s shoulder. Drake pulled himself away from the bag and walked up the stairs to pack some bags.

Miranda walked through the streets of Manhattan and looked at her map. She’d made sure she was in the same state as her Aunt Bette because she liked being near someone familiar. It wasn’t too good of an idea to be really far away from a familiar face. Suddenly, she knocked into something and fell on the floor. “Oh no, I’m sorry, are you okay?” a male voice asked. Miranda looked up and saw the most gorgeous boy she’d ever seen. He pulled Miranda up and smiled. “Sorry for bumping into you. I’m Steven Tomlin,” he said outstretching a hand.
