General Statement These rules were set up to help keep order here, and were created with the idea that they will expand and change to match the growing needs of the forum. Conduct on TimelesSub TLS is an open forum, with users from all over the world, of all ages and races. To be accommodating, please be understanding to those who may not be able to speak/write proficiently in English. Asking for further explanation is not considered insulting or inappropriate, but insulting a member for a lack of English proficiency will not be tolerated. This forum is open to all ages, as anyone with an internet connection and knowledge of the site and its address may access it as a guest. Because of this, we ask that any explicit material be talked about only in Private Messages (PM) or outside of the forum. You may contact other users through TLS in order to discuss matters considered explicit, but note that you do so at your own risk. It is generally agreed that because subbing is meant for all ages, "PG-18" material is as explicit as one may be. TLS users may be under the age of 18; therefore personal discretion is required, as certain actions may be perceived as harassment. If a user reports harassment (any unwanted PMs, or other contact), there will be consequences. Harassment that occurs outside of TLS is outside of our jurisdiction, and therefore we can NOT address it; we can only act on harassment that occurs within the forum. Authority Figures As with any website or forum, there are figures of authority. The moderators and admins work with the best interests of TLS in mind. We will not use our position of power to manipulate you as a user unless your actions cause a need for such actions to be taken. Signatures and Avatars Signatures and avatars are revocable privileges, so we ask that you follow a couple simple rules. 1. No explicit material. If your signature or avatar causes a complaint to be sent to a mod or admin, you will be asked via PM to change or remove your signature/avatar. 2. No spoilers. If you wish to use a shot from the drama, please wait ONE WEEK (until the release of the next episode) to display it in order to give users time to see the episode first. Again, failure to comply and you will be notified by a mod or admin. 3. Please do not use signatures or avatars made by others without their permission, we do not condone or promote plagiarism, and therefore we ask that you refrain from plagiarizing on their work. Signatures and avatars are privileges and can be revoked at any time. Repeated offenses may result in losing Signature/avatar privileges or banning from TLS. Starting Threads Before starting a thread, please check to make sure that a thread on the topic you wish to post on does not exist. If you create a thread that is a duplicate or mirror of another thread on the forum (whether it is in the same section or not) it will be closed or deleted. Who ever closes the thread will leave a post at the end before closing it noting why it was closed and in the case of duplicate threads, post a link to the original thread. Starting Spam Threads (discussed in the Spam section) will count as a punishable offense, and the correct subsequent level of punishment will be enacted upon the offending user. Posting In order for a post to be considered valid, it must comply with a few rules. 1. The post must be relevant to the topic or the current tangent of conversation. If the conversation takes a tangent that goes completely off topic, the thread will be notified to get back on topic or spam rules will be enforced. As such staying on topic in your post helps prevent such tangents from occurring. 2. The post may not be a smiley and a couple words; it must be a complete thought. If you are replying to a post from another user in the thread, a complete thought must be given on the quoted post. Spam quoting (quoting a post and then replying with a spam post) counts as a punishable offense. 3. NO FLAMING. Flaming is the act of insulting or harassing another user or purposely spamming a thread and will not be tolerated. The post can not be derogatory or purposely insulting in any way, shape, or form. If there is a misunderstanding about the intended meaning of a post and the perceived meaning, then it will be addressed on a case by case manner. Flaming counts as a punishable offense. 4. NO DOUBLE POSTING. Please do not post two or more posts continously unless it's an announcement post made by Admins/Mods. Spam Spam on TLS is defined as such. Spam Threads: Any thread that is created simply for the sake of creation, has no relevance to the section it was created in (or any section on the forum), contains nothing but nonsense posts (only smilies or "OMG"... no real conversation), or is offensive in any manner that is deemed to be inappropriate, is considered a Spam Thread. Spam Posts: Posts that contain ONLY smilies, only acronyms like "OMG" and "WTF" or a combination of the two are considered spam. If the post is completely off topic, offensive or otherwise inappropriate for the audience or the topic, it will be considered spam and handled as such. Posts that exist solely to raise one's post count will be considered spam. Definition of an Incident of Spamming: 1. Each time a spam thread is created and subsequently spammed, a level of punishment will be dealt to each user involved. 2. Each post in a thread that has not previously been determined as a spam thread will count as one offense. EACH INCIDENT OF SPAM WILL COUNT AS AN OFFENSE AND THE CORRECT LEVEL OF ACTION WILL BE TAKEN. Spamming or Fun Posting? Sometimes a user will post something slightly off topic as a joke. Due to the subjective nature of this, "jokes" will be handled under the following criteria. 1. Is the post insulting or otherwise offensive in any manner? 2. Does it have enough relevance to the topic to be classified as a joke? 3. Is it a play on words? If so, the relevance clause is null. 4. Does the joke classify as cold or dark humor? (Cold/dark humor is the kind that is generally not laughed at, but is more of an intellectual joke that prods the topic of conversation; allowed). 5. Racial or other insulting comments will be handled on a case by case basis, as some people are and others are not offended by such comments; by making such comments you run the risk of punishment. Joking is completely allowed, and is actually promoted. BE WARNED, if your joke is not taken as funny and is reported as spam, you may be punished. The majority rules in TLS, unless a mod or admin overrides the decision; if the majority thinks your joke isn’t funny, you run the risk of punishment. Re-threading Re-threading is the act of starting a new thread on a topic that already has an active thread. If the thread has completely died or been spammed to the point of closure or going silent, a rethread is a possibility. In order for a thread to be a candidate for a rethread, it must be completely inactive, closed but not removed, or needs to be closed due to spam. Send a PM to a moderator or super mod and ask them to consider closing a thread for rethread reasons. If the thread is in fact plagued with spam, dead silent, or closed (if the thread is closed but still visible), the mod can authorize a rethread. Consequences for Misconduct Users who fail to abide by the mentioned rules will be punished with the following system. FIRST OFFENSE: Warning - The offending user will be warned via PM. SECOND OFFENSE: Temporary Ban (24 hours) - If the user persists with any conduct that counts as a punishable offense, a 24 hour ban will be put on that user's account. THIRD OFFENSE: Temporary Ban (1 week) - A third offense after the 24 hour ban will mean a one week ban. FINAL OFFENSE: Permanent Ban - Should a user persist this far with misconduct, the user's account will be permanently banned. Banning Policy If a permanent ban is placed on a user name, it is just that...permanent. Unless there was a mistake made on the ban or strange circumstances, no bans will be lifted. The price paid for misconduct. Admins and Moderators have the right to ban anyone without warning for any kind of misconduct that completely supersedes the standard warning system. Your actions will be judged both objectively and subjectively for content, implied meaning, intentions for posting, and/or any of the aforementioned rules. Complaints and Retaliation If a user begins to complain or retaliate against the mods and admins on TLS because of punishment will not be tolerated. However, members may contest a warning by making a thread in the Warnings, Abuse, & Bans forum. There, moderators and all parties involve will may come to a solution. Complaints sent as PMs to involved mods and admins will be allowed unless if they are deemed to be flaming or spamming, in which case the corresponding level of punishment will be given to the offending user. Creating a new user after a permanent ban in order to continue an argument or to retaliate further will result in an instant ban on the new account as well as an IP ban. Thank you, TLS Management.
