The network has now revealed that the first series in that block will be an adaptation of Masanori Morita's shonen manga "ROOKIES." The story revolves around a high school teacher and coach that tries to reform delinquents by having them join the baseball team. The show will star Ryuta Sato as the coach, Koichi Kawato. He was reportedly chosen for the role by Morita himself. The baseball team members include Hayato Ichihara, Keisuke Koide, and Yu Shirota. Filming begins in early March, and the series begins airing in April. Unlike most dramas, however, TBS says that "ROOKIES" will not be confined by the seasonal programming rotation. The number of episodes has not yet been decided, but planner Akihiko Ishimaru stated that theyare aiming to cover all 24 volumes of the original manga. TBS is also collaborating with Yahoo! Japan to decide who willplay the female lead, the team manager. Starting on February 18, the websites for both companies will allow public voting to determine which of the audition entrants gets the role. (Source: Sankei Sports) |

I love Rookies. Working on this project makes me more proud of it too but too bad ppl dont seems to be enjoying or discussing this drama much compare to other Spring season drama like Gokusen 3 or Last Friends. I actually 'google'd about Rookies yesterday to find out whether this drama is being discussed else where but to my disappointment, I can barely find much on it. Every episodes are so meaningful and with Kawato's efforts and his funny action makes it more enjoyable. Each cast is very much suited to their character. Aniya relationship with Yagi is so lovely... And most of all, I just can enough of the ending song. Played it thousand of times and I still enjoy every minute of it.... |

I agree with you, darynrose. I must admit my original reason for watching this series was to see Sato Ryuta again. But after watching the first episodes, I've grown to love the other characters as well. This series teaches you a lot about life without the preachy tone of Gokusen...okay, maybe not as preachy as gokusen ![]() Maybe if there are more eyecandy here, then more people wil watch it ![]() |

Well, the decision to sub Rookies is all by pure chance. I think, Triplez and I discussed about which drama to sub for spring season and at the time almost all the famous ones were taken already, so he just decided to go ahead with Rookies. Boy, it's all worth it.... It's not like tht Rookies doesnt have any eyecandy, it's just tht it has a different type of eyecandy compare to Gokusen . Meh, well its their lost if they give this drama a miss. Just hope tht more ppl would watch this drama and join in with the discussion. ------------- Kiseki PV subbed by SkewedS & TLS [credits to zeldAIS] HERE Edited by darynrose, Jun 19 2008, 02:23 PM.

I read in asianfanatics that Rookies will be having an SP ... and a movie!!! ![]() Sato and the team will reprise their roles in this series. The movie, with a working title "ROOKIES~FINAL~", will continue where the series left off. This movie is scheduled to be shown next spring. The SP, on the other hand, will be shown this fall. I was very excited when I found out that they were going to make a live action ROOKIES but extra bonus when you guys pick up the series to sub even by pure chance. I read the manga and really like it, it peachy but not over bearing. ROOKIES deserves more discussion than what it deserves now, but I'm kind of glad because of fangirls. Cannot wait for the SP in the fall and movie next year. |
