Head Girl & Death Eater

Cynder Shadowrider, the Head Girl, was on her way to the seventh floor. Why, you might ask? Well, it was very simple. She was on her way to a meeting with the one and only Jen Top, a meeting of the Death Eaters. She was a bit nervous, though, mostly because he was the Dark Lord’s right-hand man. She had heard from Draco that Jen didn’t have the Mark. Ah well, no way to tell now—her own Mark wasn’t even showing, even with the concealment spell not in place. So how was she supposed to judge if he had one?

As she reached the desired floor, she stopped in her tracks. Jen must already be here, as she could literally feel the evil in the air. She would be very surprised if others couldn’t sense it. Well, maybe you had to be evil to sense evil, Cynder supposed. She stopped outside Professor Flitwick’s office, and took a deep breath.

Showtime, Cynder thought. She opened the door and entered the office, grabbing the cushiony chair beside the desk. With a flick of her wand, she turned two chairs into recliners, one jet black, which she left for Jen, and one emerald green, which she sat in. Pocketing her wand so as not to seem hostile, she opened the butterbeer she had brought and took a sip, her eyes darting every which way rather nervously. She was, of course, looking for Jen.

Jen stood in the corner of the room, his eyes on the empty fireplace. He looked as though he were watching flames dance even though there were none at the moment. His dark hair hung to his shoulders as his green eyes never moved. Jen was wearing a short-sleeved black shirt, black pants, and had a professor's black robes draped over his arm. He had sent a message to Cynder maybe an hour ago, telling her where exactly to meet him and when. She had arrived on time at least, that was a good thing. He pulled out his wand and lit a fire in the fireplace before he bothered to even look at Cynder.

With another wave of his wand, Jen locked the door before he tucked his wand into his belt. He draped the robes over the back of his chair before he plopped down in the blackness of the chair. It was actually quite comfortable. "So, Cynder. Show me your mark." He commanded, his own arm face-up so she could see there was nothing on his own arm. She had said they had disappeared, he had ignored her. It wasn't like he could tell by himself. He had never been marked. "Are you the only Death Eater here?" He asked as well, after a bit of time.

Cynder nodded and rolled up her Slytherin school robe’s sleeve. Pulling her wand from her pocket, she tapped her arm with it. “”Revealus concealmente!” Nothing appeared. She flushed and said softly, “Oh yeah, I forgot. Apparently, this curse is making the marks not show.” Well, he should know she was a Death Eater anyways,[she thought to herself. Only Death eaters know this spell. She knew that because it had been taught to her last summer. Her parents knew, and were not pleased. But they were sworn to secrecy.

Tapping her arm again, she said the spell to hide it, should it decide to suddenly re-appear. “Finite concealmente!” she said. There, now her Mark would remain hidden from prying eyes. She looked down at herself to avoid meeting his eyes. Cynder wore her black school robes with the Slytherin crest and emerald trim. The Head Girl badge was still pinned neatly above her House crest, and shone brightly. It was the Hogwarts crest, with the letters 'HG' super-imposed over it. Her hair was still in spikes, as they always were. Underneath, she wore a black T-shirt and black leather pants, with knee-high black leather boots on her feet. The chain to her Muggle wallet hung out of her left pocket, as you never knew when you might need Muggle currency.

As Jen lit the fire, she let the wave of warmth wash over her, but didn’t let down her guard. Cynder had no clue if he was an accomplished Legilimens or not, and she didn’t plan on finding out. Since he was the Dark Lord’s right-hand man, she was going to assume that was a ‘yes’. She stared at his arm for a moment. It was true, then. She’d have to let Draco know. Sipping her butterbeer again, she replied cautiously, “As far as I know, yes.” Caution seemed the best way to roceed when dealing with Jen. Speaking of caution, she threw up a mental shield, and imagined an impenetrable brick wall. That ought to keep anybody out.

Jen watched her for a moment. He had watched her receive her mark, thus he knew she wasn't trying to pull some sort of trick on him. Interestedly, he smiled. "I had to see for myself that the marks were effected by the curse. After all, I've never been marked." He grinned, mischievously. He wasn't supposed to outright say it, actually. He had been punished the last meeting of the summer for his disobedience in the matter. He wondered what the other Death Eaters had thought about his punishment before them. He had been punished and then right after the Dark Lord had acted as though nothing had happened even though Jen couldn't sit down right for a week because of the burns.

"You know," Jen began, looking her up and down, "i don't like people who can't look me in the eye. Makes me think they have something to hide even though usually it means they're afraid of me." He paused, a smirk playing on his lips. "So, Cynder. Are you hiding something, afraid of me, or both?" He asked smugly. He really did enjoy scaring those he came into contact with even though he couldn't do so as much while he was at Hogwarts. He knew many of the Death Eaters thought he was good at Legimends. He was, and had proved it once or twice, but he'd rarely actually used it. He smiled at her attempt to keep him out and let it drop. If he needed, however, he'd brake her wall down to find out what he needed to know.

Cynder looked up then, a defiant look in her eye. “I have nothing to hide.” Which wasn’t a complete lie. Jen had asked her to ‘find Draco Malfoy’. But he had never actually asked if she’d seen Draco. So it was technically the truth. However, the Death Eaters nor the Dark Lord didn’t set much store by technicalities. If asked a direct question about Draco, she had a choice—lie to cover for him, and pray that nobody ever found out, or squeal on her best friend.

Oy, what a lose-lose situation. As Jen looked her up and down, she replied carefully, “Of course I’m a bit scared of you. I would have to be a fool not to be—you are, after all, the Dark Lord’s right-hand man.” She remembered last summer, the very day she’d been marked. Lord Voldemort used a Muggle branding iron, which had seared her skin and made her cry out. Then he’d dug his fingers into the open wound and tapped it with his wand, making it a magical brand. Even with healing salve, it’d taken a full month to fully heal.

Bringing her thoughts back to the present, she stared Jen in the eye, but held her image of the wall. Respectfully, she asked, “Why not? I would think such an important wizard like you would be the first to be marked, to have that honor.” Was it ego-stroking? Yep, a bit. But maybe it would convince him to tell her why he’d never been marked. That would be information she could take to Draco.

Jen smirked, looking her over once more as he listened to her words. He was good at telling when someone was lying, even without prodding their minds. He didn't care if she was lying or not. In truth, he didn't care much about anything at the moment. He let the silence surround them after her last words. He let it last as if he had no intention of answering. Just before he was sure she would break the silence, he spoke, "I, indeed, am his right-hand man. However, for reasons beyond your knowledge I've never been marked. I will say, however, that in much pain comes many privileges. Do you understand?" He asked, calmly. He was speaking of himself and her at the same time. His mind wrapped around the years and years of torture he had endured, especially from Voldemort, himself. He took a deep breath, his eyes going to the flickering flames as his eyes filled with pain, anger, evil, and a hint of something else. Desire.

Cynder let the silence build, determined not to beak it. She was also determined not to fidget like a guilty child, and fought to stay still. But it kept building and building, and just when she would have said something or fidgeted, Jen spoke. She nodded and thought about what he had said, and what it meant. She shuddered, thinking about the Dark Lord’s idea of ‘fun’. She couldn’t even imagine what his idea of pain might be.

That alone would keep her up at night for months, for her mind would be constantly playing out the different scenarios. Realizing that he was waiting for an answer, she replied carefully, “I do. We all know the master has a very warped idea of fun.” Hopefully, Jen wouldn’t take that as an insult to the Dark Lord. That would be very bad. She kept looking into his eyes and saw a lot of things, but what scared her the most was the desire she saw there. Cynder gulped. Hopefully, said desire wasn’t for her, because that would be scary.
