The story thus far; And so it begins

The problem (one of many) with this story is that it's always in flux. The other problem is that I'm better(ish) at dialogue than at narrative, but at least this will be a start.

This week, the story thus far is:

Erik von Riese is the pivotal character in all of this. Erik(Jon) was a knight in Wales during the late 12th century. (Variants on the surname "Rhys" actually date back almost that far in Wales). Erik is killed in a battle and, desperate to find some way to return to young bride Margaret, enters into a "deal" with Irenicus Malestare (Jesse); Erik is made a vampire by Malestare and spends the next two centuries serving him. (See 1st and 15th posts in "The Other Side of Light" thread). Erik finally manages to break free from Malestare in the early 1400's, during the storming of Malestare's fortress.

In the early to mid 1500's, Erik meets meets a woman who comes to be known as Hope Whitten (real name is Sia) (me). Hope is essentially from another dimension/realm (Rylenn, see "Reunions"), but was trapped in this realm after a successful coup. While Rylenn shares some things in common with Erik's native realm, time moves quite differently in Rylenn (think Narnia), and as a result, Hope appears not to age at all. Erik and Hope join forces and... (stuff happens. For all the time we've spent on this, we've not actually figured out how all these chars meet. Lameness)

In the late 1700's, Erik and Hope meet someone who would end up being a lifelong friend to both of them - Claude Montmeuilly. (Val) Claude and his wife Gabrielle were to settle in America, with Claude sailing over first, and Gabrielle following. Gabrielle's ship was attacked, and only she and the captain escaped, and in the process Gabrielle lost both her unborn child and her memory. When Claude learns of Gabrielle's reported death, he is inconsolable and sinks into a deep depression. Claude eventually sails back to France, but not before he too is "turned". (We're still not entirely sure how Erik and Hope meet Claude - RP coming soon!) Erik is soon able to help Claude adapt to his new "life", and he and Hope (for some strange reason) become very close, as well.

Sidenote: It is very likely that these three were in Paris during the 1890's, should anyone want a POTO story.

Also during the 1890's, Claude's friend Armand introduces the group to his friend(almost a ward), Marie Edmunds. Marie's late father was a respected linguist at Oxford, and Marie herself was also quite talented in this field. After her father's death, Marie (who is in her early 20's) moves to Paris and assists the Gang with some translations. Her love of old manuscripts and obscure knowledge brings her and Erik together, and her warm and open demeanor (along with Claude's fun-loving roguishness) bring some much needed levity to things. This doesn't end long, as Marie is killed shortly afterwards. This is a major blow to Erik and he doesn't really recover from it.

Roughly 20 years later, Erik walks into a trap set by Malestare (whom Erik has since learned was ultimately responsible for Marie's death) and is staked. (See first post in "The Other Side of Light")

Erik remains in torpor for over 100 years before Claude manages to find him. In that time, Claude and Hope constantly search for Erik, while dealing with everything from Mummy Zombies (borrowed from Lovecraft, this will be it's own RP one day) to WW2 (they both work in the background, mainly just trying to help people in France and England to survive). In the mid 1960's, Hope and Claude meet a peculiar ally (adventure TBD) who is able to help Hope find her way back to her home. After talking things over with Claude, Hope leaves and returns to Rylenn, only to discover that she has been missing for a litle over 4 years, not the 400+ years she's experienced. (See "Reunions")

Confused yet?
