The Tale Spinner

When playing an adventure, you will be posting in a single forum topic with a small bunch of people. These people will all be other adventures, except for the Narrator, and will be witnessing the events of the story from their own perspective. The Narrator, on the other hand, already has a brief outline in their mind of how the story will progress. It's up to the players to make decisions that form the storyline ahead of them. Every adventure has a Narrator assigned to it, while communal locations (a bar, tavern, etc.) may have all different Narrators who drop by to monitor what's happening. In an adventure, the Narrator basically fills in the gaps. Each player gives a detailed post regarding what their own character says, thinks, does, feels, smells, etc., and the Narrator fills in everything else. They introduce complications, reveal treasure, control enemies and NPCs, and generally guide the characters along the adventure. However, the Narrator does not have total control. As each player has control over his or her character, they can make in-game decisions that might make the Narrator re-think the way they are planning the adventure to go. This makes the Narrators job a complex feat, as they need to think on their feet and adapt their plans/storyline to what the characters do next. Narrators always write their entire post in italics, so when you see this, you know it's a narration post and it's definitely worth reading. |
