![]() Creativity is something that I feel modern society lacks at times. For example, in education, creativity is often discouraged. How? One example is the way that the system itself is designed, where mistakes are punished. Mistakes aren't necessarily creativity, but in order to be creative, you need to be prepared to make them. Thus, I feel that we need to rework our system so that creativity is emphasized. Too much of what is taught in schools is memorization, and memorization never creates anything new. |

I agree. Creativity is broad however. A kid who came up with a superhero is as creative as a kid who can get around from doing homework. Personally, more jobs should require creativity and not just hard work. We seem to allow freedom of choice, but the job market punishes those who go into English or Art, which are, in my opinion, more creative than being a doctor. |

Right. In America at least, children are often told to drop things such as drama, art, or music. They tell them things like "You'll never get a job as an actor" or "Get a real job". I think it's a bit close-minded, and really washes down our culture a bit. |

I think it's getting harder and harder to be creative, and there might be a time where we just *run out* of it. Or at least a *certain kind* of creativity. idunno its hard to explain dont question this post |

I can see what you mean. Sometimes, it seems like everything that you could think of has already been thought up. But there's always new inspiration out there, and it'd be great if we could show students how to find it. |

Id like to get into music but I can't cuz all I would end up being is a music teacher at some elementary school or a church music director. There's not much future in it and thats where I'm most creative. Its just the way the world is, unless you know someone, your not gunna make it far relying on the creative/artistic part of your brainanother thing about this. We don't go to school to learn things, we go to school to be conditioned. We are conditioned how to act in a public environment. A good example is college degrees, you can get a masters in anything and get a job in any field you want. It shows you've been conditioned for an extra 5+ years after highschool and you will be loyal and obedient etc. We go to school for conditioning more than we do for knowledge >:E Edited by Rapidcar1, May 5 2012, 03:28 PM.

Creativity, I believe being creative doesn't come out of nowhere. I think it's something that you've heard about or seen before, but think about it or use it in a different way or use. inafterredundancy Edited by LikeaBoss, May 5 2012, 04:24 PM.

Creativity is highly undervalued in todays society. I mean, look at the popular music now a days. What's the meaning? Where's the soul? There isn't any. Creativity is even dying in the film industry. People think 3D and special effects make a good movie, and make sequels just to grab money. So they totally ignore a good plot, dialogue, character establishment, because they want to make more money. And I totally agree with Rapid, school just factory manufactures kids brains to thinking a certain way. Same with religion, or any powerful authority. It is ambition and creativity that starts revolutions, and no authority wants to be overthrown. And Boss is right to an extent, every idea we see has been inspired by a different idea, but not totally copied. People improve ideas, or make them worse, by adding their own spin to it. |

I think this is kind of biased, one-sided, lacks proof, and some may be/probably is untrue. [At least to a certain extent]. Although I do agree with a lot of what you said. But anyway, back on the topic of creativity, that's what I was thinking earlier. Since we build off other peoples creativity, one day it will have to *run out*, right? I mean, think of it this way; there's a base idea that gets worked off of. How many ways can it be improved/taken apart/made worse, etc.. There's got to be a lot of *base ideas* in the world and a lot of different ways to work off of them, but no one cares about the "bad" *base ideas* and the "bad ways" that an idea can be worked off of. I realize that the world hasn't run out of creativity [at least not yet] and that more *base ideas* and ways to work off them are being made, but.. Well, it's hard to explain. I mean, to me, the world isn't being that creative right now. So does that mean we're running out of *creativity* or is it possible the world just has *creative slumps*? Do we need to wait until one guy makes an amazing idea to get the ball rolling again? and so on poop |

Though you said I was biased, I agree with your view I see what you're saying. But lets not say that every person is in a "creative slump". There is some great art/music/ideas being created, just aren't being put to light. My point before was just to show the lack of creativity in the limelight of society. I suppose I am a bit biased, but hey, who isn't. My other point was also to say that authority (generally speaking, of course) won't promote creativity because creativity implies change, which could undermine said authority. |
