World peace; My thoughts

World peace, in reality would likely be a bad idea. Now before you all start going ape shit at me and claiming that I’m some sort of terrorist let me explain. There are several aspects to this speculation: economic reasons, individual reasons (reasons for individual people and places why world peace would be a bad thing), and general society reasons.

First, on the economic basis: I admit the world should not constantly be in a state of war or tension with other nations, but occasional war is indeed a good thing. While the waste of human resources is indeed tragic, a time of war boosts scientific and medical research drastically. In past wars, like World War I, when the war started medical studies were greatly increased and many advances were made in both scientific areas and medical areas. This creates many obvious benefits, such as advanced technology and easier combat against wounds and diseases. I don’t think I need to go in depth for that as that should be obvious.
Second, on the individual basis: The constant clash of ideals in the world opens everyone’s eyes. Since so many people are different from each other, they all have different ideas and values. A person can share those values and ideas with others to make them better, more educated, wiser, more tolerant, or just generally more intelligent. Everybody has their own set of values that they can choose to keep to themselves or share with others. Those willing to listen to others stances on subjects can expand their horizons, understand people better, and become better people in general.

Now you are wondering “what the hell does that have to do with world peace?” Consider what I just said about individual people. If you supersize it to entire countries, continents, and nations you can see how the mix of ideas and values can create quite an effect on all those living in the area. Since so many people within nations have different values and ideas then others, they may create conflicts and start wars over their own ideas. This has an effect of getting people to consider the enemy’s ideas more. For example, say that a highly Christian area and a highly Buddhist area are going into war against each other based on their different ideas in religion. The Christian people who aren’t involved in the actual war, and maybe those involved, will likely think about the “enemy’s” side of things and understand more about how other people can think. Because of this war, two different people have begun to understand each other just a little bit better and become better for it.

For the third and final point: the general society reasons. A war will bring people together. When there is a large enough enemy, an entire nation that may or may not care that much about its entire existence will join together to defend itself. This obviously serves a purpose in uniting a nation under one ideal for one single purpose. The united nation understands its own self better because of this and the nation can get along smoothly as they are all focused on one specific goal, making life in the nation generally better. Also, a war will teach an entire generation discipline. Uniting would not be easy, but since the need is great enough, the people will buckle down and deal with the problem regardless of the difficulty. This is what teaches the people currently in control discipline and how to rally together to finish a common goal.

It should be noted that with total “world peace” these kinds of conflicts would not exist, every nation would be similar, and the ideas would all be the same. All of these benefits would no longer exist. Plus it would be just a tad boring ;)

This is it for now and I just wanted to share my thoughts on the subject. If anyone feels like debating me on this, I’m open to it. So what do you think?

World peace will never happen. Humanity is too aggressive and arrogant.

Besides, misery is how we learn. We don't want to become a bunch of pansies.

The only possible World Peace is a "Forced Peace" aka what the Mongols did in their reign of all of Asia. Basically, if you tried doing anything that wasn't peaceful they were taking you down. You had no power to stop it, while they had all the power to stop you, and it actually worked but it was more of an oppressed community rather than true peace.

True peace can never happen because of differing opinions, if you disregard ones opinion that naturally leads to a fight or even on a greater scale: war. If you respect one's differing opinion then naturally you wouldn't try to change it.

Also, if oppressive peace is the only viable way to get universal peace, because if you get your ass kicked a lot, you'll probably try to avoid it again.

I wouldn't want world peace, or a perfect world, or any of that.

Just a world with out any type of crime.

They should kill anyone who does a major crime, I would love that.

Just peace in general. I don't want to see people getting killed over nothing.
It's the terror of knowing what this world is about, watching some good friends screaming "LET ME OUT!"

This is as likely as George W. Bush sending out apologies for accidentally invading Iraq.
