Scruffy Ranger Mode

These are the rules. Follow them, and we'll be fine. Don't, and we'll be forced to punish. So yea. These should be simple enough to follow, and if you have any questions, suggestions, or anything of the like, please, let me know. IC/OOC Rules: 1.) To play a character or to post, you must have registered an account under the name of your character. It’s kind of annoying for me to have to go to every other person who joins and ask them what they want their character to be renamed, because they register with a name like “SammyJo37.” This is wrong, and you will be flamed for skipping over the rules. We give ourselves the right hereby. Read the Rules seriously before your join. 2.) Do not post where is not appropriate. The following things apply: Don’t post on other people’s applications, even if you seem an extremely wrong calamity that the Staff has not seen-Let the Staff know directly instead of posting, we would prefer for it to be silently handled; do not post on Rule-based and Information-based posts, unless you have a correction, to which the latter would be best to apply; Do not post in IC posts that do not ask you to post in them; Do not post OOC Posts in IC-It’s annoying as Hell, and sure, little notes at the beginning and ends of posts are cool, but we prefer it if you do not write a freaking screenplay explaining something OOC, we have entire forums for that; etc. You will be warned after your first offense, otherwise it will be considered spam and you will be punished according to what the Admins see fit. 3.) Activity. This is becoming a bit of a problem, and we're not even a month old yet. As of January 22nd, 2008, all players are required to post at least once over an eleven day period, unless noted as Absent in the appropriate forum. Telling an Admin or a friend that you're going to be gone isn't enough unless there is no way in Hell you can post and let us know. If you do not post in eleven days since your last post without a good reason, your character will be taken from you, and your account deleted. Pour example, let's go with Boromir, as I always do. Boromir posts on Day 1. Sure. If he doesn't post by 13, on Day 13 the position of Boromir will be removed from the player of Boromir, become open, and their old profile archived (Note: All Bios are archived, completed or not, if they are removed form activity). Their account is deleted. Should you wish to rejoin, we will allow you the chance once to reclaim your character once. If you should fail us twice, you will not be allowed to play that character. This includes players attempting to join, but differently. After reserving your character, you have a week to complete your profile or we will pass you over. You may try once more, but on the second time, if you do not finish the profile or are denied, you will not be allowed to try again. No begging, either. Long-term absences. If your computer crashes, we understand. Seriously, we do. You won't be near as active. And that sucks, for serious. If you plan an important character, this is a horrible thing in the most horrendous sense of the word. Suddenly we are without a character the plot needs to move along. That hurts the RPG. So, you have two options, as of January 22nd, 2008: If you're going away for a time, choose someone to PLAY YOUR CHARACTER FOR YOU, or WE WILL REMOVE YOUR CHARACTER FROM YOU AND ASSIGN SOMEONE WHO CAN PLAY THEM. Upon your return, you can reapply, and you will have the two time thing, no questions asked. We'll give you the benefit of the doubt. This applies to every time you go away for longer than the 11-day period, and if you suspect you'll be gone for that long, go ahead and say "Hey, You, Musclehead. Play my character while I'm gone!" Seriously, we're concerned about the progression of the RPG. And we will keep up with your activity. Trust us. 4.) Respect. Respect others, and show it accordingly. We don't appreciate you disrespecting other members, and if you do, don't think we're idle about it. OOC/Out of Characters Forums: 1.) Outside of IC, language isn't an issue. Just don't go overboard. 2.) Racial slurs aren't really appreciated. Nor are sexual ones. Pleas refrain from them. 3.) Humor is fine. Just make sure it's not too gross or overly offensive, especially to the point of Rule 2. 4.) Respect each other. It doesn't mean you have to like each other. Just respect. Simple, ne? IC/In-Character Posts: 1.) No God-modding. Your characters are yours, and other people's characters are theirs. Unless they ask you to, you MAY NOT take actions FOR that player's character. Meaning, that you cannot control another character's actions. That is wrong, and you shall not do it. For killing, see below. 2.) Be sure to separate yourself from your character enough to keep what you know from interfering with what your character does. This is known as “Staying In-Character.” Meaning, you may realize that there are Orcs on the other side of an otherwise silent hallway, waiting around the corner, but your character, unless a Ranger, an Elf, or a Wizard, could probably not note them if they were being silent. This is known as metagaming, and it will not be tolerated. 3.) All role-playing will be done in third person, past tense, and will require at least 12 sentences worth of material(Two paragraph, if you will). We understand that sometimes you don't get the urge to be godly awesome in your writing, but please, at least give us something worth reading, not a sentence. 4.) If you are going to play a canon character, know your canon character. This also includes Rule #2 of staying in character, in a sense. If you’re playing Éomer, Éomer wouldn’t go slaughter Wildmen from Dunland because it was something to do. And know your character’s age. With the exception of a few characters, all characters have exact dates of birth (not including months and days, to where we will allow differences). 5.) You are allowed to be in more than one post, though it had best be explained in terms of chronology as to which comes first. However, unless you have an excellently explained reason, your character can't be in a post in Mordor then somehow be in Angmar. That simply makes no sense, they're on other sides of Middle-earth. If a post goes on long enough, however, like... say you're having a conversation that happens to last 100 posts, and meanwhile you want your character to move along with the plot without losing that valuable conversation, you may do so. Just explain it, character timelinewise, and it'll all be good. We are keeping a timeline of all posts, so thus, you can keep up with posts thusly. 6.) Character deaths are always a tricky thing. And, in case you haven't noticed, people die in Middle-earth like flies. Which is a curious thing: some come back, others go to a realm beyond the Valar themselves. Elves, Elves have it easy. They can die and show up months later at the Grey Havens, if allowed by the Valar. Same with Istari, though they kind of just pop back up where they died (Though, if they have abandoned their mission to Middle-earth, their spirit will have a lot to make up for back in Valinor). But Men, Orcs, Dwarves, and other such things can't do that (though Orc characters could stay around as Wraiths, arguably). A character, as is normal RP custom, cannot die without the owner's permission. Their death otherwise is a Godmodding offense, in direct correlation and disturbance of Rule 1 of IC. To kill a character, the killer must be informed, the killee must agree to die, and an Admin must be told. This does not mean an Admin must agree-they must be told. Big things, like, say.... Frodo dies. The entire staff must be told, and the player of both his killer and Frodo himself. You shouldn't tell everyone, probably, for the sake of shock, but it's up. Talk amongst yourself. These are the rules. Let them be known. 7.) Military battles. This is quite the tricky occasion, because, as is always the case, the Orcs want to win Helm's Deep and Théodred wants to survive. Well, the latter is more likely of the two, but these are tricky things: it's hard to please both parties. The point of the Military forums are to plan out attacks. Commanders will know, and Admins will know. However, if you play multiple characters, if you dare, DARE tell one side what the other is planning, you will not only lose that character, but you will be banned from the RPG altogether. For example, if you play, say, Boromir, and a captain of the Variags, that means you have access to both Gondor's military forum and Mordor's forum. This means that you're going to know how both sides are going to go into a battle. If you reveal to Mordor how Gondor is planning a counteroffensive, you will suffer. Luckily, I (Greg) play Boromir, so that won't happen. Violating this is a serious offense and is directly breaking Rule 3 of IC. HOWEVER, SPYING IS QUITE ACCEPTABLE, AS LONG AS IT IS EXPLAINED IN-GAME. YOUR CHARACTER CAN'T JUST RUN OFF TO TELL SARUMAN ABOUT THE ROHIRRIM RIDING AGAINST HIM BECAUSE YOU PLAY ONE OF THOSE ROHIRRIM, IT NEEDS TO MAKE SENSE. I'M USING MY YELLING TEXT TO MAKE SURE THE POINT IS GOTTEN ACROSS, SORRY. Military battles are, thus, completely in player's hands, but keep in mind how militaries work. Your character is subject to the command of your superiors in-game. You can request that player let your character do something, but keep in mind it has to work in-character. 8.) Number of Characters. I don't care how many characters you have, just as long as you can keep up with them. Don't neglect one character (unless there's nothing you can really do with them at the time) for another, or they will be taken from you. (For example, I play Boromir and Gollum. Boromir is going to get some mad RP-action, but Gollum? Gollum's stuck in Moria. Unless some Goblins are marching around, Gollum won't see any kind of playing until someone passes the Gates of Moria.) 9.) RP Level. I don't particularly like to grade RPGs based on levels, but to get the membership you'd like, it's essential. Well, not essential, but you get my point. Anyway, that being said, the level of RP is Advanced. You are required to post fluently, with a decent length, grammar to boot (style is different from this, we understand if you're posting and your grammar is odd à la your style). The stuff of legend. Know your stuff. And then show it to us. And let it be known, you kick ass. 10.) Grammar. Grammar is quite essential. Coherent sentences and like, I mean. That means punctuation in the right place, no run-on sentences, cleaning up your work. I understand stylistic works. But for the most part, you have spellcheck, you have a lot of things that can help you. And I completely understand not being able to do letters like é, Ç, and Æ. Not everyone can and not everyone knows how. So, while it won't be a problem if you say Theoden instead of Théoden, calling him Thedn won't do. At all. On any level. See Rule 10 about RP level. 11.) Relation. Ok, I understand that you want to make an OC. But your OC will not be related to any canon character. No. Not happening. Sorry. Go away. We will not allow it without it being a kick-ass bio. Like, you better be Tolkien himself and be able to speak fluent Sindarin AND Quenya. And you better be able to tell me what the Ring says in the Black Tongue, which Gandalf shall not utter hear.[{THE SECRET PHRASE IS: Nine for Mortal Men, Doomed to Die}] I will be writing a post on this shortly, but know this: your Elf warrior is not the brother of Legolas. We are a canon RP. Your OC brothers of Legolas can stay in your fanfiction. Keep them off our board. In fact, leave. Leave now, if that's what you're interested in making. Aragorn has no sisters, Galadriel has no children but Celebrían (who is not playable at this point in time), and unless things should change, Elrond is not a grand-pappy. Deal with it. (This has been a public service announcement by the "We-Hate-Gary Stu/Mary Sue Foundation") 12.) Book vs. Films. If you're wondering if we're based on the movies or books, you'd be wrong twice-We're an amalgamated RPG. Meaning, we take parts of the films, parts of the books, and combine them. It allows us to take the best of both worlds for the RPG and make them into one fine RPG. If you want to be a fully book character, sure. If you want to be a fully movie character, fine (But you'll need a lot of book information, making this kinda null). But expect us to be detailed either way-We believe in both. These are subject to change due to suggestion or Admin discretion. Rules last amended 1/21/08 Edited by Aragorn, Feb 5 2008, 08:50 PM.
