Family Life

Hatched in clutches of 6 to 8, Bestia children are born fairly independant, and are raised by the entire pack, and trained along with all the other youngsters in the pack until they are old enough to be split up into specific hunting packs, which then go on hunting trips away from the main pack to track down and carry prey back to ensure that both the elders and youngsters are fed properly, and to also scout for possible trouble, including other predatory species that might be coming too close to where the most vulnerable packmates are currently situated.

One of the few sects to have anything comparable to human marriage, Bestia take only one mate, ever, and if that mate dies, for any reason, the remaining partner usually grieves for the rest of their lives, often deliberately allowing themselves to starve to death in the process, as is considered the natural course of things in Bestia culture, as one's mate is one's life.

Bestia Packs dig temporary shelters into the ice during bad storms, and when there are new hatchlings or very elderly packmates with the main group, but generally sleep out in the open, in "puppy piles" to share body heat and mutual comfort, with the youngest and oldest amongst them in the center for added protection.

There are no Bestia Weyrs, though in extreme cases as well as in instances when there are ill or injured packmates (as well as incredibly old and frail ones), Bestia may take refuge in an Elatus or Caritas Weyr for short periods, often leaving the infirm packmates behind for a time, until they are able to rejoin the main pack, or have died from old age or some other infirmity.

Relationship with Other Sects

The Bestia like the Elatus sect most of all, for their warrior culture and fierceness. The Bestia value many of the same things that the Elatus do, even though the Elatus prefer living within Weyrs instead of out in the open. This "weakness" is made up for by the Elatus ability to attack from the air, a skill that they learn and train in for the duration of their lives to the point where they rival the Bestia in hunting ability, despite the fact that Elatus rarely hunt for food gathering purposes.

Abeo Draken are found very pleasing to Bestia, for their grace of form and ability to glide, but there isn't a great deal of interaction between the two sects, except for when the pack hosts an Abeo troupe for a short time, for entertainment purposes.
Sometimes an Abeo dance-trainer will be hired to aid in hunting-training, as the Abeo's grace in movement and ability to move so quietly is held in high regard.

The Caritas are considered very useful to keep good ties with, since they are such amazing healers, and it's not terribly uncommon for a young Bestia to become hurt enough to require Caritas assistance. Bestia hunting packs have taken refuge in Caritas Weyrs when the need for it was great enough, and they are always welcome to visit. Usually Bestia get on very well with the Caritas sect, despite the Caritas's dislike of fighting or aggressive behavior, both of which the Bestia have strong tendancies towards.
In fact, Bestia often rush to defend any Caritas Draken in need of it, even against Elatus Draken during Dominance Challenges, sometimes acting as their Champions, even though the Bestia and Elatus Drakens are close allies.

The Duro are the least favorite sect of the Bestia of course, since they do not appreciate being seen as unintelligent and barely smarter than common animals, simply because they do not live within Weyrs, and value brawn over brain. They consider the Duro to be very judgemental and therefore often trade through a third-party with food for Duro-made supplies, usually a Caritas Draken.
