Colossians 1:15; "Who [Christ] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:" JW's claim this means Christ also was created. However, v 16 states by Him all things were made and v17 states He was before all things Col 1:16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him and for Him. Col 1:17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. Verse 18 the word firstborn (prototokos) is also Col 1:18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. As the word cannot have two different meanings in the same context and using it to mean the first created wouldn't make sense. Additionally, there is a Greek word for first created which is proĢtoktisis. Regarding this as Firstborn meaning supreme overall would solve the problem and make the passage consistent Edited by Apologetics, Jan 27 2010, 05:38 PM.
