| Welcome to The Three Powers! We are an online community and roleplaying/fanfiction site loosely based around the late Robert Jordan's fantasy series The Wheel of Time. We hope that you decide to stick around and we'll see you on the boards! Want to join? Please read the Constitution An exerpt from the Site History ... Long years out of the memory of even living Aes Sedai and Asha'man, the Last Battle occurred. The Dragon Reborn- some say his name was al'Thor -won, sealing the Dark One back in his prison, saving the world. The world was still in chaos though, the Tower was still split, and Asha'man were still unreasonably feared. Gray sisters from both factions of Aes Sedai tried to reach an agreement, but it proved impossible. Finally, they gave up, and the Salidar sisters went back to Altara and set up a permanent home. They continued to live in the buildings there, but also built new, better ones. There is still no tower in Salidar, just a group of buildings within a much larger, thriving city. The three factions of channelers squabbled constantly, never able to find any peace, the only good thing was that they were far separated by land. Nearly one hundred years after the Last Battle, the channelers decided it was useless. They minimized their contact with one another, and focused on themselves and the rest of the world. With the Aes Sedai and Asha'man settling, the rest of the world was finally able to as well, returning to their old homes, and for the most part their old boundaries... |

Let me apologize in advance if this question is answered in the books. I'm only on my fourth read-through of the series and I'm still finding things I don't remember seeing in previous reads. Do we have any documentation of the oath a Borderlander swears upon becoming a man? I know it is alluded to multiple times. "I swore an oath when I became a man; to defend the Blightborder to my last breath" or something similar to that is said a few times if memory serves. I'm just wondering if RJ ever gives us a definitive wording of the oath or if there even is supposed to be a set wording. I ask partially from curiosity but also because I'd like to put that in one of my character's signatures. If he didn't give us one, would anyone be opposed to me writing one up for us? |

I'm really not sure, I've never considered it. If he didn't, I wouldn't mind at all if you wrote your own. Does not offend me one bit. It's been six hundred years since the books, so it could have changed in that amount of time very easily. |

It would probably vary from nation to nation as well, perhaps even from district to district. |

I thought about that too. I considered adding something about the hadori to the oath for Malkier, but I'm not sure exactly when a boy would receive his. Would it be given to him with his sword? Or would it be given to him at a young age? |

I believe it's hinted at that when a boy turns 16 in Malekier he is considered a man, I THINK this is in new spring but i've only read the series once. |

Yeah, your best look into Malkier is in New Spring. You could check there. |

Well I just finished New Spring. We also have to remember that our Malkier isn't the same as RJ's Malkier. |

That's true, ours isn't the same as in the books, but it is still a good starting point for understanding Malkier. |
