Prologue: Welcome to Torsbury Torsbury. Renoit: "Town of a Thousand Beverages?" (Renoit read the sign aloud before turning to his small band of comrades. The two of them looked at him with curious expressions riddled across their faces.) Renoit: ...That's what it says, guys. (Renoit moved away from the sign, allowing the others to read it.) Eldrick: A thousand beverages, huh? Only one way to find out. Innes: I agree. (Eldrick glanced at Innes.) Eldrick: Think they'll welcome a couple of rogues like us? Innes: The townspeople? (Eldrick nodded. Innes scoffed.) Innes: Who gives a damn about them. With a nickname like "Town of a Thousand Beverages", I bet this hole is full of every kind of drunk and scoundrel you can think of... Renoit: She's right. I doubt a trio like us will stand out. So c'mon, let's check out the inn. (Renoit crossed through the town gates. Innes followed behind while Eldrick remained where he stood. He read the sign once more and remarked...) Eldrick: I'm more interested in the bar, Renoit... (Eldrick caught up with these others as they made their way into Torsbury. They had called themselves rogues and looked very much the part. Renoit, a man no older than twenty-four, wore a tattered, torn silver overcoat that appeared in need of a heavy duty wash. His coat was accessorized only by a pair of hatchets attached to his sides. Eldrick was around the same age - maybe younger by a year or two. Although his clothing seemed, at glance, to be in no better condition than Renoit's, a closer inspection of the texture and style suggested that the youth was of higher standing than his comrades. He also had no weapon in his possession - at least visibly so. Innes rounded out the three. The only female, also in her early twenties, wore a summer cocktail dress with a tight-fitting blue jacket. She had ironic appearance - soft but rugged. She appeared unarmed, especially upon first sight, but that was a deceptive ploy. Attached to the side of her left boot was a small, concealed dagger. Rogues they were. Fresh off the docks at Pier Station, they were a curious bunch, to say the least.) Edited by Bx, May 30 2011, 10:59:18 AM.

(A relatively small countryside villa, the trio strolled through the streets of Torsbury and arrived at Goldmill Inn within a few minutes of crossing the entrance gate. From the outside, the inn looked weathered but in a soothing way; it was like an old pair of pants - worn, maybe with a few holes yet still comfortable and dependable. Only two stories high, it could have easily been mistaken for just another house but the large wooden sign hanging from the edge of the rooftop would catch the eye of any traveler.) (Standing just outside the inn's front door, the three of them chatted amongst themselves. Ava had planted herself on the bench beside the door while Eldrick stood with his back pressed against the outer paneling of the inn's walls. They were both listening intently to Renoit going over their future plans.) Renoit: So, we staying just the night or...? Ava: I don't see why we can't spend a few days getting to know the town. Not like we're in a rush to get to Ender's Point - well, at least I'm not in any rush. (Renoit nodded and turned to Eldrick.) Renoit: And you? Eldrick: I'd like to try the "thousand beverages" myself... Ava: You do that. But I'm not dragging your drunken ass out of some pub if you have a little too much "fun". Eldrick: I'm a big boy, Ava. I can handle myself. Ava: Hope so. We definitely don't need any more trouble. (Renoit chuckled.) Renoit: I take it you're not gonna join him? Ava: Drinking's not my thing... Especially in sleazy-looking bars. Eldrick: Having a good time isn't a crime, you know... Ava: Never said it was. Drinking is your definition of a good time. I'm not criticizing you, I just don't do it. (Before Eldrick could reply, Renoit raised his palm and said...) Renoit: Alright guys. So, I guess we'll stay a couple of days, then hit the road again. That okay? Ava: Sounds good to me. Eldrick: No complaints here. Renoit: Alright. Let's go see if they've got any rooms available... (Renoit led the way inside of the inn. Ava and Eldrick followed suit. The cozy appearance of the inn from the outside hadn't been misleading. The inside was every bit as inviting as any they had ever been in. It was the proverbial "home away from home." The kind of place that would seem to be ordinary, dull, and uninspired to the pampered masses while an oasis to the world-weary traveler. And world-weary each of them were.) (A male teenager who appeared to be working the front desk greeted them as they arrived to check-in.) Renoit: Any rooms available? (The teen glanced at the three of them before grabbing a pad that had a list of the rooms and residents. He nodded as he read over the list and looked up at Renoit again.) Teen: Uh, we do have one but there are only two beds. Is that a problem? (Renoit looked at Eldrick and Ava. Ava shrugged immediately. She was a simple girl after all; Renoit figured she wouldn't care. Eldrick, on the other hand, was more of a wildcard. Eldrick placed a pair of fingers between his chin as if he were mulling it over.) Renoit: Eldrick? Eldrick: Who's gonna sleep on the floor then? (Ava rolled her eyes and lashed out.) Ava: Does it matter? It's not like it'll be the first time for any of us. Eldrick: Alright, alright. I don't care, Renoit. It's fine. (Renoit noticed a nervous smile drawn upon the kid's expression as he turned to him.) Renoit: We'll take it. How much? Teen: Forty copper pieces. (Eldrick handed Renoit the amount; he had been tasked with keeping up with their group's funds. Once the teen received the money, he handed Renoit a key and directed them to their room on the second floor. Renoit stopped the kid as he was heading back downstairs.) Renoit: Hey. Teen: Hmm? Renoit: You forgot your tip. (Renoit handed him twenty gold pieces. The kid's expression - his eyes, in particular, rounded and lit up; Renoit's generosity had stunned him. Gold was the highest form of currency in the land and hard to come by for average, middle-class people.) Teen: ...Uh, I think you've made a mistake. Renoit: Just take it. Thanks for the room. (The boy smiled and accepted the offer. He thanked Renoit multiple times afterwards.) Renoit: And your name? Teen: Fifel. Renoit: Alright, Fifel. I'll see you around. And it's Renoit. Fifel: ...Thanks, Renoit. Enjoy your stay. (Fifel headed downstairs while Renoit reentered his room. Eldrick was outstretched on the bed closest to the door. He had already claimed one of the beds for himself - A gentlemanly move, for sure. Ava stared at Renoit as he walked in; her expression illustrated her disgust for Eldrick's selfishness.) Renoit: I'll sleep on the floor guys... (Eldrick sat up, ready to say something, but Renoit raised a palm and stopped him.) Renoit: No need. (Ava shook her head slightly.) Ava: ...Thanks, Renoit. Renoit: No problem. I'm just glad we have some kind of break... I wasn't expecting the journey to be easy but- Ava: It's taking its toll, that's for sure. (Eldrick stood up from the mattress.) Eldrick: That's why I'm heading to the bar. Interested, Renoit? (Renoit shook his head, "No.") Eldrick: Oh well. If either of you change your minds, you know where I'm at. (Eldrick grasped the knob and opened the door. As he left the room, Renoit shouted...) Renoit: Be careful! (Eldrick raised a thumb's up as he walked off.) Ava: Finally... (Renoit turned to her.) Ava: He's been getting on my nerves lately. Renoit: I've noticed. Everything okay, Ava? Aside from Eldrick's, uh, quirks, you've seemed a bit tense. Ava: Any reason I shouldn't be? Renoit: Don't do that, Ava. Not with me. (Renoit was referring to her token sarcastic comebacks.) Ava: Sorry. I'm just worried about the Druids. We got out of that last skirmish by the skin of our teeth. We won't be able to survive another one. Not this time. And that idiot's out drinking... (Renoit chuckled.) Renoit: Eldrick's not quite what I had expected, that's all I'll say about that. Anyway, I can't tell you stop worrying about the Druids since you're right - another encounter and we're finished - but we've done all we can. All we can do is try to make it to Ender's Point as quickly as possible. Not a comforting thought, I know, but- Ava: The reality is grim; I don't need you to sugarcoat anything. Either way, I'm tired. I'm heading to bed. (Ava patted her mattress, testing its fluffiness, and looked at Renoit.) Ava: Sure you don't want the bed? Renoit: It's yours, Ava. Get some rest. Goodnight. Ava: Goodnight, Renoit. (Ava noticed that Renoit was heading for the door.) Ava: You joining Eldrick? Renoit: No. Just not sleepy yet. Ava: Okay. Watch yourself. Renoit: Will do. (Renoit exited the room, softly closing the door behind him while Ava situated herself on the bed.) Edited by Bx, May 31 2011, 12:06:39 AM.
