Intro: Blood From a Hero...And a Villain

(Hyrule. Sixteen years have passed since Ganondorf's banishment to the Shadow Realm, and Hyrule has reestablished itself as a great and prosperous nation, but the dark lord has returned. He has led a great siege of, and taken Hyrule Castle as well as its great princess, Zelda. The details surrounding his return are still unknown but the great hero who originally defeated him, Link, now thirty-three and expecting a child, rushed through Hyrule Field to once again do battle with his nemesis and restore peace to the land.)

(With his legendary Master Sword in hand, he dashed through the gates of Hyrule Castle and cut down any minions of the Evil King who stood in his way. Still clutching both his sword and shield, he slashed through the fiend-infested corridors of the castle and hurried up several flights of stairs to the throne room. Upon reaching the room, left in shambles and disgraced by Ganondorf's hand, he heard a voice from above...)

"...I would expect no less from you, Princess."

(Looking at the ceiling, Link thought, "They're up there..." as he heard a cackling laugh followed by...)

"Does it even matter at this point, Princess...? I mean honestly, what's done can't be undone... Or I suppose it can, but that would tax the emotions of so many parties... Wouldn't it?"

(Without hearing the response, Link quickly dashed out of the room and back up the stairs, until he reached the roof of the castle. He then burst through the door and found them, both with their eyes now fixed on him as he shut the door and felt the pouring raindrops douse his cheeks. A storm was raging, the thunder pounded the structure's foundations while the lightning illuminated the color of their eyes. It was a scene almost perfectly scripted for an epic confrontation between two destined and familiar foes.)

(Ganondorf raised his hand with his fingers nearly curled into a fist, and stared at it, curving his lips into a wide though demented smile with each passing second. Zelda held her palms to her chest and had wide uncertain eyes pressed against Link's. Before the two could speak, the monster brought his arm down in a diagonal slashing motion and glared at his enemy as he spoke...)

Ganondorf: I have not wasted my second opportunity Link. As I said during our earlier meeting in Hyrule Field, you have already lost. You see it's funny how...

(He turned his head slowly toward the Princess and continued...)

Ganondorf: ...Our dirty little secrets catch up with us.

(He placed his eyes back on Link.)

Ganondorf: You see I have made your personal failings, not as a hero, but as... a man the reason for my ultimate success.

("What...? What is he talking about...?," Link asked himself, his eyes wide with a mix of curiosity and fear but he did not speak, allowing the evil lord to continue.)

Ganondorf: The princess and I were just discussing it.

(He let out a psychotic laugh while Link's baffled expression latched onto Zelda's. In response, she shouted...)

Zelda: ...Y-y-you've got to stop him!

(Ganondorf stopped laughing and looked, again, in her direction.)

Ganondorf: Is that even possible at this point, Princess? As I just said, what is done cannot be undone. Unless... No, no, Link is a hero, he would not dare do such a thing...

(Unable to resist his curiosity any longer, Link yelled...)

Link: Zelda! What is he talking about!?

(The tone of his voice was panicked and further illustrated the uneasiness in his overall expression. The Hero had lost his cool, the Villain's cryptic language had wounded his once stalwart confidence. The mental battle had already been lost as Zelda answered with a downward shift of her eyes followed by a quick shake of the head.)

Ganondorf: It's simple! The full Triforce will be mine, Link, and it'll be because of you!

Link: What are you talking about!?

(Ganondorf replied nonverbally with a somewhat childish grin that said, "I know something you don't know." Now angered, Link focused on Zelda and demanded...)

Link: Zelda, tell me! What is he talking about!?

(She looked up at him and said, weakly...)

Zelda: Link... G-ganondor... Oooh...

(Ganondorf sent to her to the ground with a hard slap across her lower jawline.)

Link: ZELDA!

(He shouted, rushing to her aid, but Ganondorf had blocked his path, holding the edge of his sword in front of her lifeless body.)

Ganondorf: She stays there. Don't worry, she'll regain consciousness soon. First, we must take care of our "differences." Her interference muddled the glory of our previous duel, I would rather that not happen again.

(He laughed, but not before taking a huge slash at Link, who knocked the blow back with his shield. Link then made a quick roll behind Ganondorf and dodged a series of rapid sword thrusts. Undeterred by the barrage of attacks, Link found his opening during the small lag time between Ganondorf's attacks and went for his ankles, slicing at them until the large man crashed onto his back.)

(With Ganondorf on the ground, Link rose to his feet and quickly leaped at him, the blade of his sword positioned toward the ground, intending to pierce his heart with the tip of his blade. Though it had failed. Ganondorf had used his lengthy reach to grip the smaller Link's neck and began choking him.)

Link: Urgh... Urgh...

(Link reached for Ganondorf's hands, attempting to pull them off, but Ganondorf only applied more pressure and taunted him with vicious remarks...)

Ganondorf: You fool! You miserable fool! Thought that simply banishing me to that pathetic realm would temper my ambition!?

(He tightened his grip even further. Gurgling sounds, muffled by his constricted throat could be heard from between Link's now bluish-purple lips.)

Ganondorf: Ha, ha, ha... I guess it was your conscious that prevented you from killing me when you had the chance then. But my... Judging from how you just attempted to pierce my heart, it seems that strict moral code no longer governs you. Irony certainly is a curious little thing, isn't it?

(Link's fair complexion darkened as Ganondorf's stranglehold tightened. For Link, air had become like water in the desert, a fleeting necessity, and it was Ganondorf who now controlled its flow.)

Ganondorf: ...What a shame. But watching the life slowly drift from your body isn't as gratifying as I'd imagined it'd be.

(Despite the unsatisfying nature of the hold, at least in his own view, Ganondorf pressed down harder on Link's throat and felt the pulse of his strained veins bulge against his grip.)

Ganondorf: ...Now that doesn't mean I'm not enjoying this. Oh, yes. Every second is greater than the last. It's just that something's, I don't know, missing... You see...

(Ganondorf stopped talking for a moment, seemingly to find the right way to express himself. All while Link's sputtered gasps echoed into the air. Then, almost as if to drown out Link's incoherent pleas, Ganondorf began to speak, his voice full of gusto as he opened his monologue.)

Ganondorf: Sixteen! Sixteen!! SIXTEEN YEARS I spent of my life in that white abyss!!! So cold... Frozen in a prison of my own thoughts, my own conscious being. ...But you don't understand, you see, and you never will. That kind of helplessness will remain unique to me, even now, as your blood is beginning to cool and your mortality becoming that much more self-evident. But I can assure you, I will make you experience the nearest thing to it...

(Link's eyes were now not merely bloodshot but also bloody as Ganondorf again applied more pressure. This, however, lasted for only a moment as the unmerciful Gerudo lifted his hand from Link's neck soon after. Link choked as air rushed into and out of his lungs. He writhed in agony, shutting his lids, causing bloody tears to flow onto his similarly colored cheeks. Ganondorf erected himself after his hand had left Link's neck. He eyed the fallen hero from this dominant position, and grinned at the sight of Link's quivering uncharacteristically from the pain.)

Ganondorf: A crying, squirming hero? But even as pathetic as you are right now, you're still every bit as much worth my time as you were when you were younger and apparently had more of an edge.

(Ganondorf delivered a kick to Link's wounded frame, rolling the beaten hero onto his stomach. He then spotted the Master Sword, laying just a few feet from where he stood, and thoughts of poetic justice entered his mind. He grabbed the sword by its hilt, marveling at its masterfully crafted design complete with an evanescent shine, before he again focused on Link.)

Ganondorf: Regardless of whatever happens, Link, I promise, you will die tonight.

(Ganondorf shifted his gaze onto the blade once more. His pupils dilated and brightened, almost as if he'd had an epiphany looking at the blade. With that, he completed his monologue.)

Ganondorf: ...Right now, in fact.

(Ganondorf, Master Sword in hand, closed in on Link, and hovered over his battered body. Link, now darkened by the shadow of Ganondorf's massive frame, sensed his end drawing near. He attempted to stand, pressing his palms against the ground with all of the force he could sustain, but it was not enough. His arms jellied from side to side as he tried to erect himself, but not before his face slammed back into the ground.)

(Ganondorf wasted no time with words, gesturing his satisfaction at the sight with a simple yet almost dull smile. It didn't seem fitting, his smile, that is, with his long-awaited coup de grace mere seconds away. His unenthusiastic expression, however, was not a mask for indecisiveness. He had raised the Master Sword, the Legendary Blade of Evil's Bane, above his head, twisted its blade downward, targeting Link's heart and began to crash down on his right knee to drive the weapon through it. ...Then fate intervened, in the form of an arrow. ...And the sword slipped from the tyrant's hand, landing delicately on Link's backside.)

Ahh...

(Ganondorf howled, releasing a series of hefty sighs that suggested annoyance rather than agony. Within the exiled Gerudo's right palm was an arrow of considerable length. He looked at its sharp tip and gazed at the droplets of blood dripping from it. "...Zelda.", he lipped without sound, having realized that she had been the one to strike him. As he entered a moment of careful introspection, he felt another arrow rupture his skin. This time through his left bicep. He did not let out a yelp, however, illustrating his pain with only a grunt, and a look of strain characterized by a creased brow and partially gritted teeth.)

(Ganondorf hastened his pace after the sting of the last arrow subsided. He rose to full height, all 6'6 of him, and wrenched the arrow locked within his palm out, then did the same with the other. He could not see Zelda from where he stood, the Princess had cleverly hid herself from an unseen vantage point.)

Ganondorf: So where...?

(Ganondorf took a few short steps forward then turned around 360 degrees, but still found not even a hint of Zelda's position. "Behind of these towers, maybe..." , he pondered, shifting his left foot behind him as he centered his attention on the castle tower nearest him. He squinted his eyes to obtain a better focus but found himself only wiping away the raindrops building around his eye sockets.)

Ganondorf: Still can't see her... Then again-

(Ganondorf started to turn himself in the direction when he felt a hand latch onto, grip, and yank at his left ankle. He nearly fell forward, letting out a surprised grunt before he had regained his balance, only to feel the head of a blade pressed against his spine.)

"Move...and die."

(Link's voice echoed. Ganondorf twisted his head to the right, shifting his pupils likewise to get a glimpse of him. Link was holding himself semi-erect on one knee, resting his free hand on it while the other held the Master Sword against his foe's back, albeit unsteadily. Ganondorf had picked up on this subtle yet vital weakness, preparing mental notes internally but remained as he had, opting to wait for an opening. For a minute or so, there was a silence walled between them. It was awkward, particularly for Link, who had become accustomed to hearing Ganondorf's relentless taunts.)

Link: Hmm... No thoughts, Ganondorf?

Ganondorf: Either you'll kill me or you won't. I doubt my thoughts will make much of a difference at this point.

Link: I agree. But it's still not like you to be so quiet.

Ganondorf: You think I've got some ace-in-the-hole, don't you?

(Ganondorf chuckled as the words left his lips.)

Link: I'd expect no less.

(Unbeknown to him, Link's talking was Ganondorf's "ace-in-the-hole." Every time Link opened his mouth, Ganondorf felt the tip of the blade shift around wildly as if it was on a pivot.)

Ganondorf: ...And you'd be right.

Link: Wha-

(Before Link could finish, Ganondorf slapped the thick, flat end of the sword with his right hand, knocking it away from his back. He quickly leaped forward and whipped himself around, ready to counter any retaliation from Link. Arms extended, left more so than the right, with palms stretched open, and knees bent for balance, Ganondorf stood waiting for Link's next move. Yet he was unprepared for Zelda's, realizing it when he felt the surprise pinch of an arrowhead against the back of his neck.)

"Things have changed, Ganondorf..."

(Zelda remarked. The softness in her voice had become husky, almost manlike, in her anger. Ganondorf, now sandwiched from the back and front, as Link had risen onto his feet for the first time since his arrival, raised both hands in the air to gesture a surrender of sorts. ...Or an acknowledgment of defeat, at the very least.)

Ganondorf: They certainly have.

(Ganondorf sighed, then chuckled while looking at his hands and arms, in the areas where Zelda's arrows had pierced his skin.)

Ganondorf: ...You know, you're not a bad shot, Zelda.

(He twisted both arms around toward her, showing her the open wounds on his right hand and left bicep.)

Ganondorf: I'm guessing you were taught by the best, eh?

(He nodded once at Link to imply that the best he'd referred to was "him." Zelda kept her silence, suspicious that he was trying the same strategy he'd just used against Link on her. Link himself now stood square with Ganondorf, looking up at him with an uncharacteristic scowl whose intensity was heightened with his raising of the Master Sword's tip to Ganondorf's protruding Adam's Apple. The former tyrant had been trapped; it seemed that any move in either direction would lead to a pierced throat.)

Zelda: It's just not meant to be, Ganondorf.

Link: You're all out of moves.

Ganondorf: Then kill me. This is the best chance you two will ever have yet you're still stalling. Finish the job, already! ...Or, stop this charade. Now.

(Both the blade and arrowhead inched further against Ganondorf's skin with the challenge issued, though neither still seemed willing to end the villain's life. Noticing this, Ganondorf's lips curled with bemusement as he noted their apprehension. "And so it ends.", Ganondorf remarked to himself while he shot another glance at his wounds. He began to clench and open his fists repeatedly in rapid succession. Link and Zelda wore parallel expressions, riddled with confusion as they eyed the Evil King's peculiar gestures - It was just what he'd wanted: Another distraction.)
