Post your comments and other some such about my in progress story, Phantom Pain, here.

This is also where I'll post other tidbits like name translations and what not.

Ch1 stuff.

Houtaikawa - Ishi translates to "Bandage River - Hanging Death (or Death by Hanging)".

In Japanese folklore Jurogumo were spider like youkai who ate men. They masqueraded as women and seduced men only to eat them in bed. The name lit. means "Prostitute spider".

Phantom Pain has a somewhat alternate history where Emperor Nero of Rome wasn't a huge jackass.

I may or may not make Dress by Abingdon Boys School (Originally Buck Tick) the official "Season 1 Opening 1" theme.

Ch2 is up.

Jigoku Houtai was directly translated in the chapter.

Kurokaze translates to Black/Dark Wind.

Ittou Kiriha is a bit trickier to translate. Its lit. meaning is Single Stroke Cutter Leaf which sounds silly. However when translated a bit more to actual spirit of the kanji that make it up it translates to, "To cut a leaf in a single stroke" a reference to the legendary sword of the swordsmith Masamune.

The Kamaitachi are weasel like youkai in Japanese folklore responsible for ambushing travelers with a sudden wind. They're usually three of them, one who knocks the person down, one who cuts them, and the last who heals them.

Incidentally the name of the foe isn't a typo, Kamitachi means "Peerless Sword" or "God Sword"

With this chapter two of the three main protagonists and their attachments have been revealed. It'll probably be a few more chapters before the last is revealed but I will say it isn't Shinji.

Ch3 is up.

Hoo boy, lots of stuff to translate and comment on.

Hanaakari translates to "The brilliance of cherry blossoms that illuminate the night"

Houtaikawa - Eiei Imashime translates to "Bandage River - Hard Binding"

Kirisame was more or less translated in the chapter but to clarify its another way of saying Drizzle (as opposed to Shigure). It refers to (as far as I know) a spring or summer rain drizzle as opposed to Shigure meaning an autumn one.

Mukaikaze translates to "Headwind"

Chiruochiba no Mai translates to "Dance of the Falling Leaves"

Utagi was translated in chapter, it means Doubt.

Spoilers, ye be warned

Due to an explosion of muse this is coming back as well. However I'm starting over from scratch and tweaking the story a bit. You can look forward to the new Phantom Pain within the next few days. Possibly as early as tomorrow night.
