I think that's interesting that you had classes taught in French. |

That's because I'm in the French Immersion program. ...for better or for worse. I do not enjoy Social in French. ;___; |

Yes. xD We don't have different classes for history and geography and politics and stuff; it all goes into Social. That said, there are optional classes for Social-ish extras, like law and government and all that. Edited by Rowan 2, Aug 19 2009, 06:43 PM.

Ashley, i said "today i discovered the word flemard." or something along those lines. flemard means someone who is a layabout or lazy. i just thought it was a really cool word. & wow that's interesting... we have history, geography and citizenship, as far as i can tell citizenship is somewhat like law/government? learning about society and such, laws and morals and systems of government, there's a bit of philosophy included too. i am really looking forward to the year after next when i go to 6th form college and can take philosophy as an actual subject though. |

Hey, I was close. I got half... ish. In high school here, Citizenship was US Government, and you took it senior year for half a semester... along with an economics class. Geography (World) was a class taken in Freshman year of high school. Then World History, US History, and then the government class after that. Social Studies was basically history and social related stuff. I took it 6th grade year. I remember the teacher talking about Cuba and milk. After that, it was Texas History and then US History. My complaint about how they had history in secondary school is the fact that for some reason... you have US History up until the Civil War in 8th grade year, and then in 11th grade, you have everything after that. In college, I took both classes in one year. Edited by Ashley Benlove, Aug 20 2009, 08:02 AM.

I actually kind of wish Social was split up, because as it is, what we learn is really limited. We always do Canadian history and/or politics, but otherwise there's usually only one other country we focus on - grade 7 was Japan, 8 was the US, 9 was Russia (♥ ♥) and the US again (Cold War); last year they tried to teach us stuff about imperialism, but because there was so much to learn, we didn't go that deep into it. ;__; ...actually, I blame last year's suckiness due to them going on about globalization and how it related to Canada for three months. |

Globalisation fascinates me. I recall a lecture in the Media and Society class I took last year. |
