I think it has to do with the fact that you're applying to colleges in the fall of your Senior year, and so the latest part of the transcript the colleges will see is your junior year. Also, it's recommended that one takes the SAT during their junior year. I dunno if this is the case in your state, but in our junior year, we had to pass ALL of the state standardised tests in order to graduate. |

For what I know in our state you had to but they have changed so much stuff in the last few years people don't know what to do. Almost ever district is different. At my school you need a community project, ten hours of community service(which isn't a lot), finished Roar project, finished senior project, and some other random stuff though I am not sure if there are any standardized tests needed at the moment, for what I know. |

We have to do ten hours of community service for Health. Unfortunately it's nearly impossible to find volunteer opportunities that fit my teacher's unnecessarily specific criteria... And when I tried to volunteer at the food bank this week they turned me away because they had "too many volunteers". WTF? My class is the last one that has to pass the WASL to graduate... Yaaaay... |

Oh, that sucks, That means I just made the cut. Though I have passed the WASL every time so I never really worried about it. There are a lot of volunteer spots in Auburn. Down and mine and Alex's Church they hold the Monday night suppers so we can most likely get into the easy. Maybe you would be able to drive up one day in the summer, help out in the morning then maybe hang out with us later? I got my hours before I even started High School Through VBS. |

My senior year (I think it was), for US Government I had to volunteer with a political campaign for about 20 hours, I think it was. I think a lot of people didn't get it done. I'm personally completely against community service requirements for graduation. B |

Why? I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It's a good way to get us to do it because we probably wouldn't otherwise. |

I think it should be more important what kind of grades you get, rather than if you've volunteered time. But, colleges do like seeing it on your resume, as I understand it. Edited by Ashley Benlove, Dec 26 2009, 10:22 AM.

I am okay with volunteering. I mean the fact is there are 365 day in a year and I think it is said about 8,765 hours in that time. So ten or more hours isn't really a lot. |

But they don't grade you on your performance. You just have to do it. It helps people and it's not that hard. I don't see the problem. |

That's true. I mean, when I had to do for my class, I managed to get it all done over three Saturdays. And I didn't mind. I still have the shirt for the campaign too (and this was almost four years ago). I wore it recently too. And, I just checked my blog for to jog my memory. It was actually 15 hours, not 20 hours. |
