The Skeleton Army; Commend or Condemn

For anyone who doesn't know, The Skeleton Army is the funniest raider group around. They've been in NationStates for several years, and their method of 'raiding' is to move some non-WA nations to the target region, and then post on the RMB claiming to have taken it over. I don't think that description really does them justice - their invasions are absolutely hilarious, and generally enjoyed by all involved - especially the 'invaded' region.

I think they're worthy of recognition by the WA, and contacted the founder to see if he was ok with it - he is, but (like me) isn't sure whether a Commendation or a Condemnation would be better. Before I draft anyone, I'd like to hear peoples views as to which would be better. I think a Commendation would be better because you could actually compliment them for what they do - but then people might think it a backhanded compliment like "Commend Anti WA". A Condemnation could be written more ICly, and portray them as evil raiders (which also being merciful etc.), but then people might perceive it as being like "Condemn The Axis of Evil" - a condemnation based on raiding alone, and not appreciate that its meant as a tribute to them.

I kind of feel like a Condemnation would be a wittier tribute to them. They've been joking of how bad, and ineffective raiders they are -- and then the Security Council slaps a badge on them saying they're bad, using its own ineffective method of deterrence. :D

Also "Commend the Skeleton Army" wouldn't have a chance in hell of passing. Okay, maybe if I got Aegara, Kandy, and Todd to stack it. But most defenders would vote against (just look at Texas with "Commend Todd McCloud").

I've seen some of their raids and it is hilarious whenever they "invade" a region. This is a tough one. I'm not sure whether they should be commended or condemned either.

I'm not sure about that - they really are the invader 'holy grail' - a raiding group that increases the activity of regions they 'invade', do no harm to them at all, don't infringe their sovereignty, and all in all provide a good time for everyone. I think that even NewTexas & other defender would appreciate that - they wouldn't be considered 'proper' raiders, since they don't use WA nations, and don't intend to cause harm.

I'm all for Condemning raiders who are good at what they do, because (as I see it) that plays into the underlying rationale behind raiding, which is to be at least mischievous, if not evil.

We'd just have to make it a clear tribute in the text of the Condemnation.

Here comes a stupid Travancorean draft:

Quote:

SECURITY COUNCIL

Posted ImageCommend The Skeleton Army
A resolution to recognize outstanding contribution by a nation or region.

Category: Commendation | Nominee: The Skeleton Army | Proposed by: Travancore-Cochin

The Security Council,

COGNIZANT of the existence of The Skeleton Army;

AWARE that this region is a notorious 'raider' group and that they have existed for a long time;

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED by their activities at 'raiding' innocent regions;

NOTING that this 'raiding' involves moving a large number of non-WA nations into targets of invasion and then 'declaring victory';

WONDERING how this will have any effect on the region's sovereignty at all;

FURTHER NOTING that 'declaring victory' involves serial spamming the target region's Regional Messageboard until the natives' eyes bleed;

YET, STILL WONDERING how natives find this 'declaring victory' absolutely funny and how they embrace their would-have-been captors heartily;

WANTING to condemn them for their acts of 'raiding';

BUT CONFUSED how such an act that causes no harm to a target region or its natives is condemnable;

HAVING BEEN MADE AWARE RIGHT NOW that their acts of 'raiding' actually causes activity to rise in a region, without causing harm to it;

THEREFORE RESOLVING that they should not be condemned, but commended instead;

HEREBY commends The Skeleton Army for their services to inactive regions across NationStates.

EDIT: Oh, and I think Texas is gonna like this, actually (not my draft, but a commendation of TSA). TSA had even paid a visit to Texas some time ago, and they were welcomed into the region in Texan style.

They invaded my region once, back when Ruby used to have a puppet with them. Everyone in my region flipped out and assumed we were actually being invaded. I would favor some sort of recognition of them -- if only to silently hope that one day Ruby will return -- preferably something worthy of their humor. A tongue-in-cheek condemnation would probably work best.

I'll ponder this further - but it may be a while before I draft anything.

Considering that Anti World Assembly failed, and that if I tried a condemnation of them, people might misinterpret it as a similar kind of move to make fun of a raider region, I'll go with a commendation. I spoke to their founder again, but he didn't have any preference for either. I'll try and get a draft done this weekend.

I'm going to actually go for an IC commendation :O Yep, it seems Yelda might've started a new trend in the SC. I'm just waiting for a few details from their founder before I draft it. Now I've just got to go and brush up on my RPing skills.
