I re-contacted NewTexas about the commendation. He said he'd get back with me in a day or two, but that was a week ago. :-(
Tex said no.

Disappointing, but, I'll be starting plan B tonight. :-)
Well maybe you could commend the region but throw in some nice things about NewTexas in some of the clauses.
It would be hard to do that. NT would be a good candidate, though. Too bad he doesn't want to be commended.

He told Topid he didn't want to be commended, he didn't tell any of the rest of us that. Posted Image

I'm pretty sure if you keep trying to commend/condemn players as opposed to nations, the mods will eventually outlaw it. Uni's contention that it violates the game code (which states that nations are the ones being recognized) is pretty airtight. I like Yelda's text -- though I'd prefer it were a little "punchier" -- and I don't necessarily think BT's opinion matters. He can't honestly complain if other players want to recognize his outstanding contributions to NS. Even if he's only being modest.

And Yelda, BT is the one who designed NSDossier.

Why choose between IC/OOC ? "Their" can apply to the person, or the nation. Its your decision. :D

The Security Council;

APPLAUDING NewTexas' impressive 1888+ days of service as Delegate of the Region of Texas, with only a slight interupted by the Great Disk Disaster of 2003 (or whatever);

NOTING their valiant leadership of the Texas Defense Forces and a commitment to the cause of defending;

FURTHER NOTING their long dedication to the cause of National Sovereignty, with valuable contributions to the furtherance of that cause;

RECOGNIZING their maintenance of NSdossier, an indispensable tool for quickly retrieving information about all existing nations and regions;

GRATEFUL that NewTexas has undertaken the monumental task of compiling a comprehensive history of NationStates;

PROCLAIMING their well-deserved reputation for being friendly and helpful to all who seek assistance;

Hereby

SOLEMLY COMMENDS NewTexas.

I wasn't around for the great disk disaster. So he was delegate before that, lost it temporarily, and has been delegate since? So basically he's been delegate of Texas for the entire existence of the region. Oh and it's NSDossier, not NSTracker. NSTracker belongs to someone else.

I like the idea to Commend NewTexas, although I think that the end should just say "COMMENDS NewTexas", adding extras looks unprofessional IMO. Commending Antarctic Oasis is exactly the sort of thing that I think the Security Council should be used for, recognising achievement is one of the cornerstones of the body but clearly they are very against it, Kenny has also said before that he thinks I am an attention whore :P so maybe I should stay out of that one. Repealing Nazi Europe's condemnation is definitely one I think should be done, I agreed to wait until about February but maybe you feel that is not long enough. I desperately want to write that one myself and hopefully submit it as well.

I would suggest its written by someone outside of the region. We could start drafting a repeal now, but I certainly wouldn't submit anything this year.

You can take out phrases like 'player of' but at the end of the day you're still handing out commendations for the actions of people and not abstractions.

Are you?

Technically SC#9, Liberate The Security Council, just gave my region a badge, and fifteen minutes of fame. Yet, most people understood its symbolic meaning. Which is just like, commending NewTexas the nation, would just commend the nation, but be interpreted as also commending the player.

Resolutions could, and should have a multidimensional layer to them.

Lets look at the problems with OOC proposals, what pronouns do we use? "Their" and "They" get pretty boring after a while, yet if we attempt to use "He" or "She" we're either making a guess (guesses are never good to be basing proposals off of), or spelling it out to the NationStates community that Unibot is a guy! A principle of privacy which I don't care about, but I don't think Max Barry had in mind when he created the C&Cs, that only those who identified themselves, and shared their genders, and personalities over the internet could be commended and condemned.

Commending a nation, is commending player.

Commending a player, however, is commending some dude which we probably don't know that much about.

*cough**cough*

I was an idiot and thought I clicked "quote" on your post, but actually clicked edit ... and rewrote your post as mine *insert slap emoticon here*.

Nothing sinister, or resembling censorship ... I promise, :'(
