The Restless…

That was the funny thing about being dead. In life you got used to certain things; technology and modern inventions like firearms. They were a part of your life and you never once thought about how they worked. Now, with no machines and computers, they were all relying on their memories and the scrapes of trivia that they knew in order to reinvent the most basic of things. An automatic pistol would have been nice right about now, as would have a good cup of coffee…

Hazuki almost wanted to cheer when they made it to the top of the stairs. It felt like they had set out on the mission hours ago and that they had just defeated some impossible task by scaling two full flights of stairs. Pathetic really, but at least it was something to be thankful for.

“Gimpy?” Hazuki asked, his eyebrow rising in utterly disbelief of what Yuu just said. What the fuck? Had he had the energy he would have whack his second in command across the back of the head, but that didn’t seem like an overly smart thing to do given their present circumstances. Hazuki still needed the little shit to help him get into a room.

“He strikes me as the type with freak-radar senses,” Hazuki muttered dryly. There was no way he was going to tell the medic that he was smoking already and Yuusuke may have been a lot of things, but suicidal wasn’t one of them. The fact that he hadn’t really even met the medic didn’t stop Hazuki from continuing on with the paranoid rant. “You know, there is a paper cut and he comes running, or something scared like that.” Hazuki decided to ignore Yuu’s little priestly rant; it was best not to encourage the fool when he tried to pull that card else they would never hear the end of it.

“Second door on the right,” Hazuki said, randomly picking on. Part of the choice was from memory; a lot of the rooms were starting to rot apart, walls crumbling and floor boards starting to buckle and give way. That was why the first room was out of the question. Mix that with Hazuki’s need to be close to the stairs so that it was easy to get from floor to floor when there were emergencies and the second door from the right seemed like the best bet. Not that he would really be running up and down anywhere, but it wasn’t overly easy to shut his mind off when it came to things like that.

Yuu laughed lightly while Hazuki questioned his nickname. He could almost sense the other’s need to slap him in his voice. Luckily for him, that wasn’t happening. He was partially laughing at the fact it took so much effort just to get up two flights of stairs. If it was possible for Yuusuke to become more exhausted, the trip certainly did it.

His eyes drifted around the floor while taking another drag. Yuu didn’t really feel like listening to Hazuki talk about the medic, he heard it none the less. Kai had to have some sort of radar, or smell blood, something like that. The minute Yuu had walked in the door with the bleeding Hazuki, Kai was there...was rather creepy but fuck it was convenient. He would never outwardly complain about the man if he could help it. Without him Hazuki would no doubt be dead.

“Right, second door.” He grunted, finally breaking the silenced he’d fallen into. Of course if Yuu was exhausted, he could only imagine how bad the half dead Hazuki was. In light of the realization, Yuu actually shoulder most of Hazuki’s weight unconsciously while he walked to the door, opening it and snicker at what he saw.

“Nice pick, has a half decent bed and everything.” Yuu chuckled before stepping inside. He didn’t bother to ask Hazuki if he could walk to the bed, opting to help the man regardless. When the were about a foot away, Yuu ducked out from under Hazuki’s shoulder and let him walk the rest of the way. He took another drag and looked around the room, he’d never seen this one. “Do you need anything else?” He yawned, looking in the out the window, the sun would rise soon.

“Yeah, yeah, laugh it up while you still can,” Hazuki threatened playfully. “I’ll kick your ass for it later. Remind me.” He actually managed a grin then, almost a big cheery one despite the bruises marring his face. Yuu wouldn’t remind him of anything and he knew that; well, not of anything that he wanted to be reminded about. Yuu had a horrible love for bringing up the wrong sorts of thing and Hazuki had the feeling that his little scuffle with Wrath would be one of those things to raise its ugly head ever once in awhile.

The second door was actually quite a nice room. In the back of his mind Hazuki hoped that he wasn’t actually stealing it from someone but he gathered that he could get them to make an allowance this once.

Hobbling over to the bed when Yuusuke let him go was a hell of a lot harder than he cared to admit. Plus it was cold without the other man there to lean on. Hazuki was starting to notice that chill to the air now; it was something that he never really paid attention to before, but now it was sending shivers down his spine. Must have just been because of blood loss.

“Need anything else?” Hazuki asked with a smirk. “Well, a glass of water would be nice…” He was going to push his luck with the question and rattle off a whole bunch of shit that they just didn’t have – a tired Yuu was normally a pretty gullible Yuu – but even he couldn’t be assed teasing the guy.

Sleep was what he wanted. Lots and lots and lots of sleep. And warmth. Flailing slightly, he managed to half roll over to the edge of the bed and yank the blankets out. Hazuki rolled back and pulled them around himself, snuggling into the fold and ignoring the pain the action caused in his side. Warmth was nice.

“I’m trembling.” Yuu snickered while he looked around the room again. He was pretty sure someone would have taken this room, but it was Hazuki’s now. His head spun just a bit while looking around, another reminder of just how tired he was. Hearing the suggestion Yuu nodded and walked toward the door.

He almost made it to the door before stopping and laughing. Fucker was taking advantage of his half asleep state. He glanced back and flipped Hazuki off before walking out and actually getting him water. It wasn’t every day Yuu actually did something for...anyone. The hotel was dead, so he didn’t really have to worry about bumping into anyone or having to converse with anyone. In this state, Yuu considered himself stupid.

The water was normally dirty here...so a daily job for a few men was to boil away the bacteria. Yuu could only hope that in the confusion of the last day...they hadn’t forgot. He was shocked to see they hadn’t and grabbed a large glass before walking upstairs. It felt like every bone in his body cracked while he continued, a sure sign of just how exhausted he was.

When Yuu entered the room again he snickered at what he saw. Hazuki looked like a little kid, curled up in blankets and waiting for a winter storm to be over. It was hilarious but depressing at the same time. He placed the full glass on the nightstand next to the curled up man before nudging at him a bit.

“Anything else or can I go to sleep?”

“You should be,” Hazuki muttered. The joke was starting to get lost on him, his mind slowing down even further. Sluggish. That was how he felt now; sluggish and tired beyond belief and all his mind seemed to be able to focus on was the idea of a nap. Just a little bit of sleep. He was so focused on it that he completely missed Yuusuke leaving the room, let alone when he came back it. If it wasn’t for the nudge, he would have been off in his own little world of sleep and completely oblivious to the others presence.

Hazuki grinned as the man brought the glass of water to him. That was something that he was not overly expecting. Yuu’s random acts of decency were even a shock to Hazuki and there was no real way of telling when the other man would actually do something nice or laugh in your face.

Either way Hazuki was hella thankful and sipped slowly at the water. It took the sting from his throat and helped him feel more refreshed and somehow almost alive. Clunking the glass back onto the table, he saved the other half for later.

“Thank you,” he muttered, uncurling himself to reach for the glass. The water, while drinkable, was still slightly murky though it was something that they had all gotten used to pretty damn quickly. It was like the bad cigarettes and the cheap alcohol; they all hated it but they still took them. It was better than being completely without and in some strange way it kept them all just a little bit more sane. Made things more human that way.

“Go and sleep, Yuu.” He offered the other a pained grin and a small nod. While this may not have been his room and the bed sure as hell wasn’t really fit for sleeping in, at the moment, it was the absolute best place to be. Hazuki was almost sure he had never been so damn comfortable in his life.

Yuu didn’t look at Hazuki while the man drank, instead he was inspecting the room. It was indeed good for sleeping, but no good otherwise. Huge window, facing the outer-streets, shades drawn, fire exit. Someone could get inhere no problem. Wrath could get in. That couldn’t happen.

While Hazuki thanked him, Yuu silently drifted toward the window, looking out to see the beginning of a sunrise. He couldn’t help but stare for a moment or two. When he was alive, he loved watching sunrises...he was rarely asleep when it happened. In death, he couldn’t stand it...the color alone made him sick. Lethargically, Yuu sighed and pressed against against the window sill, making sure that it was indeed closed. An idea to nail it shut crossed Yuu’s mind several times before he finally heard Hazuki again.

“Right,” he grunted, drawing the shades shut before slowly walking back to Hazuki. He paused, leaning down and pulling up his pant leg. A gun, small but useful and never used. He pulled it from a holster he’s stolen placed on his ankle. Standing up straight Yuu sighed and placed it near the half empty glass of water.

“Yeah, good night.” Then he walked out, Yuu needed sleep like hell, and his room was six levels up.
