Just a step away from Hell...
|
Seventeen hours was a fucking long time. Hazuki’s eyes closed behind his hands, the light too bright even through his fingers. He could feel a steady headache starting to set in and it was hard to ignore. Right behind his eyes, it throbbed and flashed in a nauseating way. The worst thing was that Hazuki knew that he should be thinking. His mind should have been going a million miles an hour right now, fuelled on by fear and caution. Yet try as he might there seemed to be no way of clearing that fuzzy feeling from his head and focusing on the present. They needed to prepare; make ready for the next attack. And Hazuki knew that there would be a second; Wrath would be coming back and he’d be looking for ways to draw Hazuki out. Hazuki groaned at the memory of his makeshift knife. Never in his wildest, darkest dreams had he ever thought he’d take to stabbing someone with a crossbow bolt. Then again he also never thought that he would smash someone’s hand to bits using the hilt of a sai and a wire fence. Hearing Yuusuke's footsteps, Hazuki kept his eyes closed and simply tracked the guy by the sounds he made. The window. “I don’t…” Hazuki started, his eyebrows moving even closer together as he tried to concentrate through the pain. “I don’t remember him leaving.” That felt strange; like there was this whole gaping hole in the middle of his memories. He could remember the violence of the fight, the pain and the shrill sounds of the sirens, but then there was just a whole lot of nothing between then and waking up. |

Long way down
|
Yuusuke continued to drift around the room, inconspicuously glancing back to Hazuki every so often. It was strickly to watch his reactions, to figure out anything he may have missed. Yuu had 'heard' the entire conversation...in a way. It went in one ear and out his tapping fingers, like most conversations led by others did. Like always, it was never processed. He wanted to know the Sin's motives...if it was to take the hotel...why did he make the addicts leave? When the sin began to lose...why didn't the addicts come back? Too many questions, and none of them Yuu could answer...rather frustrating on just about every level. The groan directed his attention back to the topic at hand, "Not a fan at how barbaric you got while fight eh? Cet animal est tres mechant; Quand on l'attaque il se defend?" He laughed, covering his eyes while they squinted to focus on even the smallest things. "Of course you don't remember him leaving. You both seemed barely concious by the end." He mumbled, beginning to drift again. Yuu realized he couldn't afford to stay still, fatigue would wash over and he couldn't stop it that way. He mindlessly began to fidget while he walked as well, anything to avoid that laugh...that face and that disgusting color. "You were falling when I got out there, he hobbled away...toward one of the red light district methinks....maybe a sin will patch him up?" |

“Barbaric doesn’t even begin to sum it up,” Hazuki muttered, his lip snarling upwards slightly in a way that hurt the bruises on his face. Not that he really minded at that point in time though. “You and your bloody Languages,” Hazuki cursed quietly. While he was hardly fluent in any other languages, he knew the basics of Latin from his days as a cop. Especially working with forensic teams and doctors; it had a way of implanting those words into your head and before you knew it, you spoke more old Latin than you did English. French was also a touch and go subject; there were a lot of French in the poorer quarters of town where he had grown up. Yuusuke, however, constantly tested Hazuki knowledge and more often than not he could only get every second or third word in the things he muttered. That one he knew though. An old French woman use to quote it to him as a child running wild on the streets and to hear Yuusuke say it was just a little unnerving. The idea of being barely conscious come the end of the fight didn’t seem that far fetched to Hazuki. He was still barely conscious and apparently he’d been out for most of the day. What did was the idea that Wrath was in a matching conduction. That seemed wholly out there and something that Hazuki was actually glad he couldn’t remember. “Falling?” Hazuki muttered the word mainly to himself. He vaguely remembered that; remembered the feeling of the fence in his hands and then the overwhelming lightness in his head. Watching Yuusuke through his fingers, Hazuki again frowned. The man looked tired. “Have you stayed here the whole time?” He felt stupid asking it, but there was that nagging little suspicion in the back of his mind that told him he was probably right. |

Yuusuke felt a cloud surrounding him as Hazuki rang off his senseless commentary. No one was really fond of his Latin, or his random quoting from the bible...but that never stopped him before. He really didn't care anymore...about anything. "Yes falling, one generally does that when losing as much blood as you...well, lost." Yuu sighed, growing tired of the questions far too easily. He should have known they were coming, and part of was prepared. Unfortunately, that part was currently unconscious...like Yuu wished he was. Of course not under the same conditions as Hazuki. "There was blood everywhere...you were soaked in a mixture of your blood and his." It had a rather odd smellHe shook his head at the ending thoughts, wondering what exactly brought up such a thought. "I'm still not sure how Kai managed to keep you alive with so little blood in you." Dragging his feet, Yuu made his way back to the center of the room where Hazuki was sitting and looked down. "You..." and that was all he could get out before a long yawn overtook him and he covered his mouth. When it was finally over Yuu smirked down at Hazuki, generally embarrassed, "You really don't want the answer to that." |

Yuu’s description of the bloody mess made Hazuki’s stomach lurch. The idea of being coated in that demon’s blood was even more disturbing then the idea of having collapsed due to blood loss himself. It made Hazuki feel instantly dirty and more than anything he wanted a damn bath, cold water and all. The unsettling feeling caused Hazuki to cough again and honest to God or Satan himself, Hazuki felt like he was coughing up a whole bloody lung. Then again coughing one up probably wouldn’t hurt as much as the pain that throbbed around his ribcage and again Hazuki had to gingerly roll to the side as he tasted fresh blood in the back of his throat. “Are you sure I am alive?” Hazuki asked bitterly while using the back of his hand to wipe the red from his lips. He sure as fuck didn’t feel alive. “I think I already do,” Hazuki replied with his own smirk. It wasn’t like Yuusuke to yawn; strange little expression that it was, Hazuki couldn’t remember ever seeing the man pull it before. That wasn’t saying that he was never tired or that he slept all the time; Yuusuke was just guarded, just like Hazuki. A yawn was a show of weakness and it was one of the things that neither was happy to openly display, especially not when so many people were relying on them. Squinting his eyes shut further, Hazuki raised a shaky hand up to close around Yuusuke's arm. He attempted a light squeeze but his fingers didn’t seem to be cooperating overly well so he opted for a small back and forth tugging of Yuusuke's harm. Hopefully his second would get the meaning. “You need to get some sleep, Yuusuke,” Hazuki told the man; he felt like he was trying to reason with the other, though he had no clue why. |

Yuu rubbed at his eye while Hazuki smirked away. The overwhelming urge to slap the smirk of the smug leader’s face did cross his mind, but in light of Hazuki’s condition, the idea wasn’t a good one. Later, for sure. As if it wasn’t bad enough the Yuu’s glasses, which showed not only his eyes but also just how tired he was...but now he yawned. Great, the sense of weakness just leaked from his fingertips now. He couldn’t stand Hazuki’s smirk to boot. So condescending, as if he wasn’t human. So Yuu didn’t show he was tired...ever...but he’d been up for close to 48 straight hours...a yawn was certainly overdue. After scoffing and looking off in an opposite direction, Yuu was shocked to feel a very light and shaky grip on his arm. He looked down slowly at the man. It was sad that Hazuki had gotten so weak that what was meant to be a firm action, was weak and almost pathetic. It seemed almost caring this way. Had it been anyone else, Yuu would have voiced his distaste for the sentiment, but Hazuki was injured, so he’d let this pass. “You’re right. I do need sleep.” He grunted, gently pulling his arm from the others grasp and stepping back. “I also need to rig the gate and set up more explosives in the perimeter.” A small smirk curled on his lips while Yuu moved some of his hair from his face, “Priorities you see.” Edited by Yuusuke, May 18 2009, 04:20 PM.

As expected, Yuusuke extracted his arm rather quickly and bluntly and Hazuki would have rolled his eyes had the action not threatened such nauseating dizziness. “Ah, yes, priorities,” Hazuki said slightly mockingly. He didn’t know why he was trying to agitate the other man now, but Yuusuke's consent ‘everyone hated him’ theory got on Hazuki’s nerves at times. He had honestly been trying to be nice and he was concentred that the other man hadn’t slept and just stayed in this damn foyer all this time. It was touching and Hazuki was grateful for the gesture, but he still reserved the right to worry. But of course Yuu had to be the one to keep thinking tactics and plans and Hazuki sighed slightly. And people thought he was some self-sacrificing martyr. Yuu seemed to have the whole lone ranger ‘save the world’ complex just as bad as Hazuki did. “I want to get that alarm system looked at,” Hazuki said decidedly. It was hard to get his mind working through all the foggy pain, but he was damn determined to prove him point. Even if he wasn’t too sure what that was right now. But it spurred him to bend his elbows and ever so fucking slowly, he propped himself up into a half sitting position. His ribs were screaming at him, yelling out their abuse at Hazuki’s rough treatment and it didn’t take a genius to know that this was probably doing more harm then good. But it was all about the fucking point and so Hazuki managed to push himself that little further and get into a sitting position. Once there, his head spun and he almost blacked out again but he bit his lip and started sprouting off the first things he could think of. “I want to rig the rest of the street, establish guardhouses on the more secure buildings. I want exploration of the tunnels to be complete and then we are going to wall in a section thick as fucking possible; close it off completely so that it can be our last standing point if need be. Divide the supplies and… put some…” Hazuki’s words trailed off as his head got steadily lighter and he lost his train of thought completely. |

Yuu sighed at Hazuki’s mocking tone almost instantly. He hated that tone, and was sad to admit that he heard it more then any other tone. Hazuki may have thought that sleep was important, but it wasn’t as necessary as fortifying the hotel in Yuusuke’s opinion. He wanted to yell at the man to give him a break, but chances were, that would be taken too literally. Turning so he wasn’t facing Hazuki, Yuu yawned again as the man rang off orders. He couldn’t say ‘No I was just going to do those two things and go to sleep’ because he’d gotten the man started, Hazuki now found at least 60 more hours of work for him. The flame thrower addition would have taken at most...6 hours. The perimeter rigging would have taken 3 hours...that mean Yuu only had to be awake for 9 more hours. A cake walk compared to what Hazuki was now proposing. Yuu found himself wishing that in these list of task ways ‘Yuusuke go the fuck to sleep’, no such luck. Figures “Right,” He grunted when he thought the man was done...however it took a second for him to realize that was mid sentence. Yuu looked over, a momentary flash of worry in his eyes before he quickly banished it. “You okay?” he mumbled, walking back over. “You look kind of pale...probably should lay down.” |

Hazuki wondered if he had made it far enough through his list to give Yuusuke a headache yet. He honestly had a list longer that the height of the fucking hotel of things that needed to be done, both general maintenance and others as precaution. Not to mention that after tonight their defences really needed to be reconsidered so that added another three or four stories of figurative dot points to the record in Hazuki’s mind. He really needed to get some paper to help keep track of all this shit. “I’m fine,” Hazuki muttered. He missed the flash of worry in the other man’s eyes and concentrated on a spot on the far wall. Keep his eyes busy but devoid of movement and maybe the room would stop spinning wildly around him. He was annoyed that he couldn’t play this game as well as Yuusuke. His wounds left him at a serious disadvantage and made it hard to keep up, even with the obviously tired man. “I’ll get started on the… the tunnels and you can… start on… the…” Hazuki blinked again as the room seemed to dim in front of his eyes. He needed cough again, could feel that crushing pressure against his lungs that made him need to get the air out of them, quick smart, but fucked if he wanted to let that show. That plan wasn’t working at all and out of the corner of his eyes, Hazuki was sure that there were at least three Yuusuke's looking at him. “Yuusuke,” Hazuki didn’t often plead with his people but then Yuusuke was normally the exception to most rules. Again he reached his arm out for the other man, catching him somewhere between the chest and shoulder. Hazuki pawed at that spot blindly, still refusing to actually move his eyes to look for the man; that would just make the dizziness worse. “Please just go to sleep cause I really can’t be assed doing the tunnels just yet.” |

Though the list made him dizzy, Yuu was far more concerned with Hazuki, which was rather odd. “Fine my foot.” He muttered as the man brushed off his question. Anger boiled again, and Yuu knew he’d regret bottling it up so much. He’d been doing so since he felt anger lacing the air he was breathing, since then he’d gotten rather paranoid. Besides, Hazuki was obviously dizzy and lightheaded, arguing wouldn’t help. “Bull shit you’ll get started on the tunnels you crazy son of a…” Yuu hissed, looking down at the man at first but finally looking away in almost a fit of disgust. Then the coughing started and He felt rather guilty for getting as mad. It figured, he couldn’t get mad at Hauki...why the hell not?! He acted like a fool going out there...yet here he was, pitying the man, not a seriously offensive word coming from his lips. Yuusuke was brought back from his silent contemplation when he heard his name almost pleaded to him. Before he could look back the the man, a hand reached out and caught him off guard. He wanted to move away, but something told Yuu he shouldn’t do that. Besides the hand was warm, and he had been so cold. “Fine.” He finally grunted after a moment or two of staring at Hazuki who was looking in a different direction. “After I get you upstairs, I’ll go to sleep, alright?” That sleep might only last 20 minutes however. Hazuki didn’t need to know that. Nightmares weren’t something Yuu wanted to mention, just like yawning wasn’t something he wanted to do. “So, do you think you can at least stand or should I carry you again?” |
