Just a step away from Hell...
|
The large cat pounced, his eyes flashing an unusual gold while its jaws snapped at the man’s throat… Hazuki’s eyes snapped open instantly. His body jerked, the intensity of his nightmare causing him to bolt upright. Only he got stuck, his arms snagging painfully behind his head in a way that made his mouth fall open and his breath hitch roughly. That created pain everywhere. It started in his lungs, pressing out to his ribs which in turn burnt his skin. His throat constricted as he struggled to breath and there was a sickening taste of blood on the back of his tongue. Gasping, Hazuki’s body shook at he let out a rattling yet weakened bout of coughs. More blood; it was filling his mouth and the stench was assaulting his nose from within. It took a moment for him to calm down enough to identify what had stopped him and set off the alarmingly painful chain reaction. Ties. His arms and feet were tired to whatever the hell he was lying on and Hazuki’s mind instantly went into overdrive. The last thing he could remember was the whirring of sirens and the stench of sulphur. Something had attacked the hotel and Hazuki could still feel the panic that he risen up inside of him at the notion. What he couldn’t find though was the memories. Who had attacked and what had happened and more importantly, where the fuck was he? Why the hell did he feel like he’d been run over with a cement truck? Turning his head slightly, Hazuki felt his vision dip dangerously out of focus. The room was spinning around him, making it impossible to catch sight of anything that would hint at his whereabouts. Even so his right arm tensed, his fist curling closed as he tried to struggle with whatever was holding him in place. It was a pretty weak attempt, especially as his ribs throbbed with each half twist and his arms were feeling somewhat like watered down jelly. As his vision fogged over again, the room darkening as another bout of coughs took over, Hazuki knew one thing. This was not good. |

Long way down

A child's laugh and then nothing but red. Jolted from his two second dream, Yuu heard shifting in the dark room he hadn't left in hours. Panic washed over him at first, that was until he realized it was Hazuki. He had his hand tightly gripping his rosary for hours now and even as Kai and the rest of them left, he couldn't stop looking at the slow rise and fall of the leader's chest. After the initial lashing out, Yuu had actually fallen silent and let everyone else carry on. They had all left hours ago. Kai worked like magic and almost everyone who was injured walked away feeling much better. That one was certainly a god send. But Yuu couldn't leave. He was dealing with a strange mix of anger and worry, and it was making him dizzy. For most of the night he stared straight at Hazuki while he lay motionless on the table, it was only in the last hour that he drifted into sleep. Now he regretted it. "Calm down dumb fuck." Yuu mumbled as he stood up and walked over to the table. "Should I start reading the Art of War now, or should I wait until the part where you realize just how dumb you were." He was in a sense rightfully pissed, Hazuki not only endangered himself by going out there by himself, but he gave no orders to help the others, thus endangering them all. "Do you feel like a hero now?" |

The voice was oddly familiar though Hazuki’s panic stricken mind wasn’t really registering who it was. He knew it should have been one of those sounds that just snapped into place in his head and the fact that, despite turning his head towards the insult, he still couldn’t make out the blurry figure had Hazuki even more worried. Then it clicked; insult. Yuusuke. Of course then came the rant about the Art of War and more insults and Hazuki just ignored the man and concentrated on trying to breath. It was a hell of a lot harder then it should have been and Hazuki wanted to know why. If his hand was free he would have at least been able to poke around his own chest and work out what the fuck was going on. Yuusuke sounded pissed and Hazuki wasn’t too sure why. He was starting to get fuzzy memories; the sirens were a constant, as was the sulphur. Then heat. Lots of heat; like hell fire and pain and the flash of short blades. But at least it was Yuusuke and not some demon lurking around and Hazuki let himself relax in his rather strange predicament. His fisted right hand uncurled, the fingers feeling stiff and sore; as if he had been holding onto something tightly for a long time. Again, Hazuki just frowned and searching his own mind. Closing his next to useless eyes, Hazuki prayed that the room would stop spinning and that his head would clear. Not that he was sure why he felt so light headed. “What happened?” he asked, almost flinching at the dry sound of his voice. Why should he feel like a hero? Hazuki was grasping at straws trying to remember. |

Yuu felt a bit guilty about immediately attacking the man with insults, especially considering Hazuki was barely conscious...but he had every right to be pissed. Grumbling and rolling his eyes, Yuu walked away to turn on a dim light. Mostly for his own use, he didn't want to trip and end up falling into the already severely injured man. "What did you do?" He mumbled while walking back to the table and looking down. Hazuki was still covered in blood, most of his clothes were tattered and destroyed, if not by wrath then by Kai when trying to fix him up. Due to the permeated blood on those tatters, the room still reeked of the fluid. It would disgust Yuu had he not been sitting in the room so long. "You went out and fought a Sin...by yourself...with out any orders to the men." Yuusuke sighed while reaching into his pocket and pulling out a cigarette and lighting it quickly. The nicotine calmed his rage to a low bubble as he continued to look down. "Oye, open your eyes. " He muttered, Kai had told him to check if the leader's eyes were at all dilated when he woke up. Of course, Yuu had no idea what it meant if it were, but with out his glasses he was sure to be able to tell rather quickly. |

Hazuki heard the flick of the light switch and if possible he managed to screw his eyes closed even tighter. He didn’t want to deal with light right now; he had the feeling it would only make the dizziness worse. “A sin?” Hazuki asked. His forehead crinkled into a frown at the words. He hadn’t really been expecting to hear that though something about them felt true. Again, strange flashes of memory started to return; a swarm of strange people, the feeling of steel smashing into his stomach. It was starting to make sense but his mind was still too scrambled to fully get a grip of the whole. “What sin?” Hazuki needed to focus on one thing at a time and that one thing was what the hell he had done to make his body feel so damn painful. The comment about leaving the men to themselves could be explored and hopefully answered later once he pieced the painful damn puzzle back together. “Yuusuke?” he questioned, his voice still raspy and hardly above a whisper. He did as he was told and cracked his eyes open; his focus instantly went to the other man despite the way that Yuusuke seemed to have grown a few extra heads that were spinning around on his shoulders. His arms, while heavy and tired, pulled against the odd straps that were holding him in place. “Are you going to untie me now cause this is kinda creepy…” Hazuki attempted a smile to lighten the words only it turned more into a grimace as pain exploded in his jaw and cheek. “The fuck?” he muttered, his mouth working to open and close gingerly. |

"Tetsu told me you were fighting Wrath...I'd never seen a sin before...who was going to tell me that the look human?" Yuu mumbled as he took another drag from his cigarette. That was the part that bothered him the most. Demons generally had a grotesque look to them...sin addicts looked strung out, so naturally Yuu could spot them...but that sin looked human. He bled like a human. Yuu stared down into Hazuki's eyes...which were slightly dilated and that meant something, but fucked if he knew what. He stayed silent for the most part as he looked around the room for something else he was told to do...but while the medic was speaking, Yuu wasn't listening, per usual. "Dude, that fucking medic is creepy." Yuu sighed before looking at the restraints "And he told me not to undo those." Yuu moved to undo them regardless, he didn't really like listening to others...especially when doing the exact opposite seemed like a better idea. "His fucking smile is....weird." He mumbled while getting the first restraint off. "Wrath broke your jaw." He sighed and moved to the other restraints. "Kai set it correctly, so be careful." |

Just a step away from Hell...

Hazuki sighed thankfully when his arms were finally released. Rolling his shoulder slightly, he brought his arms down to cradle around his throbbing ribcages; they fucking hurt and that was a slight understatement. “Wrath?” Hazuki blinked again, turning his head away from the light and it all came back to him. The sirens, the abandoned guardhouse, the challenge and the fights in the hotel. He could remember the feeling of the sin’s skin near his, the heat and the agony of brass knuckles slamming into his jaw and chest, breaking bone each time. The crack of bone filled the room as he recalled smashing the creatures hand with the butt of his sai and then he remembered the feeling of stabbing that thick crossbow bolt into tender flesh. That was all it took for Hazuki’s stomach to churn. Rolling to the side opposite Yuusuke, Hazuki’s mouth fell open, emitting a painful bout of coughing and a spray of blood coloured bile. It burnt the back of his throat and Hazuki made a half assed attempt to keep his hair out of the way. The memory of the fight, the idea of the violent things he had done was like a branding iron to his mind; even if it was against a sin. It sat heavily in his stomach and twisted a second round of sickly retching from his body. Even as a cop he had never done anything as… inhumane as that fight. He’d dedicated his work and life to helping those that needed it; it reaffirmed his early suspicion that something was changing in him. Hazuki hated it. He stayed facing away, listening to Yuu chatter on about some medic; funny, Hazuki didn’t remember them having a medic but he sure as hell was grateful that they apparently did. At least the medic would have been able to help… “Oh god I locked someone in a closet,” Hazuki muttered, the words all coming out in one rushed breath. His hands scrambled to get a grip on the table as he attempted to push himself into an upright position. He needed to get that guy out; make sure he was alright. Hazuki hadn’t exactly been overly gentle with him after all and god only knew how long he’d been unconscious. That would be the next thing to grill Yuusuke about. |

"Yeah, Wrath." Yuu sighed. He found this whole, 'taking care of the leader' thing rather taxing but then again...Hazuki was hurt. Yuu didn't move as Hazuki moved about, only flinched at the pained noises he made. There was so much blood...and blood was easy to draw. Yuu could only imagine how much damage was necessary for the blood he witnessed. "Ad maiorem dei gloriam" he grunted and walked around the table to undo the straps around Hazuki's feet. He had no illusions that the man was even paying attention to a word he said and once he was done, Yuu had every intention of just leaving the room. He was exhausted and kept having visions of that damn kid, it was painful to an extent. He paused at Hazuki's revelation and snickered. "Don't worry about it. I took care of it." Everyone who was hurt was taken care of. He needed go and work on the gate now. It wasn't damaged, but obviously he needed to rig it so something like this wouldn't happen again. Yuu was thinking flamethrowers. "You shouldn't move around too much." He sighed again, knowing that if the stitches broke open he'd have to find Kai. He had no idea where the medic had gone off to. Rolling his shoulders Yuu suppressed another fit of anger that bubble forward and turned to look at Hazuki. He wasn't going to insult him, not now atleast, knowing Hazuki he'd throw in coughing with a side of blood simply for effect. "Do your remember anything?" |

Wrath? Well fuck. That wasn’t something you heard every day, especially since, painful as it was, Hazuki was still alive. Well, alive as alive could be. A human fighting a sin – anger embodied no less – and being around to hear about it sure as hell didn’t seem normal and Hazuki shuddering at the thought. He instantly had questions. How was he still alive and what had happened? Call him buts but a run in with Wrath sure as hell didn’t seem like the type of thing you should walk away from. The need to ask Yuu what the hell had happened, especially towards the end where all Hazuki could see and remember was white hot pain, was overwhelming. “How long have I been out?” Hazuki asked instead, keeping the dark trail of thoughts to himself. He gave up his rather feeble attempts at sitting up when he Yuu assured him that everyone was fine. A moment’s rest; then he could start to get things in order again. Hand travelling to his face, Hazuki felt the swell of his jaw and the puffiness of his cheek. He could just imagine the black bruises forming; they’d compliment the dark rings under his eyes from his latest round of sleepless nights. “I remember the siren going off,” Hazuki answered slowly. All he was getting was flashes – dark, violently flashes of colour and pain that he needed to get into some form of rational order. “And Wrath… and the Sin addicts. They were going to break in unless I went out there. He was… bored.” Hazuki frowned, his hand still covering his eyes as he tried to remember the exact details. “Fights started; I got them into separate rooms and then,” he paused, a shallow cough wreaking havoc on his body. “The addicts left and then all I get is the fight and sirens.” Lighting his hand from his eyes just slightly, Hazuki peered up at Yuusuke questioningly. “You are probably in a better position to tell me what happened.” |

Yuusuke rolled his head as Hazuki the first question. He couldn't help but snicker a bit...they always asked the same questions. 'How long was I out?', 'What happened?' who would have guessed that Hazuki would be no different. "Umm." Yuu mumbled lightly, trying to find a means to tell time in the room. It was still relevantly dark, so he was lucky if he didn't stumble. "17 hours." He finally sighed, finding a clock, which he was pretty sure was still working. In those 17 hours, Kai had stitched up everyone who was hurt and cleaned up. The entire time Yuu was in this weird middle stage. He wasn't awake, but he certainly wasn't sleeping. His hands moved to his temples as Hazuki asked another question. Even the dim light of the room was giving him a headache and he was silently wishing he hadn't broken his sunglasses. Where does one get a new pair of those in Mid heaven?! Yuu was annoyed by the very thought of never getting a real replacement. "The siren did indeed go off." He grunted, walking across the room to glance out the window. He'd become paranoid in the last 5 hours of not sleeping, so as Hazuki was unconscious, he must have checked the windows 40 times. "What is there to tell. You got your ass kicked, while simultaneously kicking his ass." Yuu laughed and looked back. "I came in right around the time you stabbed the fucker with the arrow. Rather interesting method." |
