Title: M*A*S*H Platform: Atari 2600 Genre: Action / Adventure Release Date: Dec 31, 1983 Publisher: Fox Video Games (20th Century Fox) Developer: Fox Video Games (20th Century Fox) Have any of you ever heard of a TV show that aired in the late 70's and early 80's called MASH? It was a medical drama/dark comedy show about happenings in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital unit. Well, guess what? In 1983, 20th Century Fox thought: "Let's join in on the Atari 2600 milkage! Everybody else is doing it so why don't we do it?" (Yeah, do it right before the industry crashes!). Well, they did and people of the early 80's got a game with mediocre and broken game play. Story Rating: 0/5 Errrrrrrr....... There is no story. Graphics Rating: 4/5 Let's throw the dog a bone here. The graphics are pretty good for an Atari 2600 game! Very colorful and detailed! But good graphics don't make a good game. Game Play Rating: 2/5 It starts out playing the MASH theme which is pretty good in 8 bit but, during the theme, the round starts. It's really annoying because most games like Pac-Man and Galaga start AFTER the main theme plays, not DURING! It's really unfair because your opponent takes off like a bat out of hell while your dragging your ass behind! The object of the game is to drive a helicopter and rescue more injured soldiers than your opponent. But you have to get passed these trees and watch out for this tank that's trying to shoot you. When you touch the trees, you start going ape sh*t which is a real hazard because it can put you in the line of fire! I even checked my Atari to make sure it wasn't on Difficulty B and it was on A and I was stunned to find that out. And let me tell you something about your opponent, he is like that ------ bag cousin of yours whom your parents tell you to play nice with but behind everyone's back, he acts like a little brat, and always cheats at Monopoly and Battleship! It's funny I mention that because the opponent DOES CHEAT! Not only does he go ridiculously faster than you but he can go straight through the trees! Yes, you read that right. HE CAN GO THOUGH THE TREES! So let me sum it all up for you: The trees make make you go ape sh*t, your oppenent goes faster than you, and he can go through trees. This is a great example of broken game play. On bonus rounds, you get to play this mini game that is similar to Operation which is what saves this game because I found this bonus game to be quite fun! You have to pull this dot out of this guy's body which I'm guessing is a bullet; If you touch the sides, it shocks the guy . At least you can pull on the game select switch and have it where you do nothing but play this bonus game! Sound: 3/5 The usual Atari sounds. They won't drive you insane and as I said, the main theme sounds okay. Replay Value: 2/5 The replay value is very slim. The only thing I would come back for is the mini game but, even that gets boring after awhile. Overall Rating: 6/10 While its not the worst game out there, its not good either. Which is why I'm giving it a 6 out of 10. |
