Game: undead In Platform: MSX2 Developer: T&E Soft Publisher: T&E Soft (Since this is Japan-only, I'll skip over the ratings) Genre: Shoot-em-up (BTW, this whole section, which you may see in liek every single review I made, is meant to extend the review )(About time I reviewed this game.) undead In is what you think. It's a game where you fight undead stuff... like zombies... and skeletons... and... Final Fantasy Bombs (What?)... except the last one isn't undead. And you shoot the undead as a warrior, a wizard who in no way resembles the classic Final Fantasy Black Mage, and a female ninja (who is hawt btw). And you... shoot... random things... at the undead thingies. Okay time for the review ![]() Story: 5/10 I can't read Japanese too well, but from what I can make out, it has to do with the undead, and a temple in a kingdom, and you having to defend the temple in a kingdom from the undead. Not the most original story out there, but it gets the job done. Graphics: 8/10 A bit detailed here and there, such as the character portraits, but since this is a MSX2 game then they're pretty good by that platform's standards, hence the 8/10. There are also some gory details, such as pixilated blood and gore, but the gore is practically only seen during the final boss fight, and the blood is only in the final two levels. Sound: 9/10 The music is well-composed, and uses the OGG SPU instead of the crappy PSG SPU. You can optionally switch to the PSG but the music sounds worse that way. Gameplay: 6.7/10 Mindless shoot-em-up gameplay, yay! As I said before, you shoot random things at the undead things you encounter. Some weapons like the boomerang are impossible to use and the fire weapon is incredibly overpowered but is slow and hard to aim properly. The enemies are a bit generic, and these worm... things... seem to have been reused in the Genesis (Mega Drive)/Master System/Game Gear game Sonic Spinball. Why did I say "reused" instead of "used"? Because this is a 1988 game, and Sonic Spinball is a 1990... something... game. Also, the game is quite short, lasting only six levels. It took me less than two hours to beat this game! Replay Value: 2/10 The replay value of this game is almost nonexistant. Overall: 6.5/10 (Not an average) Overall, this is a pretty average game. The shooter elements work well, but mediocre gameplay, impossible weapons and enemies that take too many hits to kill damage the game somewhat. It was quite the interesting project from T&E Soft, but they CAN do better. |
