Thank God it's a Famicom-only release...

...or Americans and Europeans would have been disgusted by this disgrace towards Davis' orange, black striped cat.

Garfield: A week of Garfield = Garfield no Isshukan

Storyline:
When you start the game, you'll be at the titlescreen, but this screen is also hosting the reason what happens.
Garfield comes from the left, Odie from the right, but the latter suddenly runs off to the right.
"WHERE ARE YOU GOING ODIE?"

That's it. You have to find Odie. Search for Odie through seven days.
Pff. You cannot be serious. It's a 1989 game. It should have a better storyline by now.

Also, this storyline is pointless. What's up with Garfield only looking at Odie. What the hell is Jon doing then???

Storyline gets a 1/10

Sound effects:
Garfield's jumping sound effect is HORRIBLE in my opinion, to say at the least. And when you hit an enemy: DAAUGH. Lol. The others are somewhat acceptable, but there are about seven in the game total. Yes. Seven.
Sound effects get a 1/5

Music:
It somehow gives the Garfield feeling (did I mention that a cartoon was released around 1989? Could be related), but I cannot stand the music. It isn't very badly composed, but it could have been done better. I know, Towa Chiki haven't released good games, but hey, if Metal Force, a KOREAN game had KICKASS music, why couldn't this game have? It could get annoying to a few minds which haven't been shattered by the gameplay, what I move on right now.
Music gets a 2/10

Gameplay:
And this is the point where the game absolutely fails. Do you have a life bar? Yes, you do. Will you see it full? Not really. Why? Because there are so many enemies that move super fast compared to Garfield's speed (who somehow jumps three or four times high as his height on two feet, absolutely no comment, it brakes the law of physics), which makes really hard to avoid them. Also, they do remove a chunk of that tiny white healthbar.
Oh, but it's not all. As you move on in the game (11 levels total, if I recall correctly. Sadly there are days where you must complete two levels), they damage you more, which can result in a VERY, VERY dead Garfield in two hits. What are the enemies? Birds, spiders, superfast mouses, snakes, frogs, (and ALL of these also in houses...) and the most hated of all... the MOTHERTRUCKING GOD DAMN BIRDS! I hate these birds SO MUCH. Imagine three birds attacking you at once. You probably think "Oh, I have invincibility time to avoid them!" Well, not really. You're just pushed back a little to the opposite site of direction what you face. Which can cause a huge problem. Let's say there is a superfast mouse coming from the right. But you're just keep going to the right, while the mouse pushes you to the left. You are dead. In two seconds. Do you have the ability to continue? Well, on GameFAQs the reviewers said no. But you can. Apparently, I could...
Weapons. Let's see... the unlimited weapon of yours is the almost useless kick. Never use it. Second weapon: Bone. Only shoot it in turbo against bosses (Huge cats throwing apples, or oranges or... the last one... KNIVES at you (???)), otherwise avoid it. Third: the pie. Very useful against birds. You throw it, it falls and it explodes into four direction. The fourth is... IDK what it is, but it goes into three directions. One ahead and two in diagonal.
How do you get health and weapons? By... randomly jumping all over the screen. Seriously. You can only get stuff by doing this. You can only get the invincibility lasagne or the speed shoes by doing this. Same goes for getting the KEYS to complete parts of the level to move on (before the timer or the enemy horde kills you). This really makes everything annoying. Jump all over the stupid screen to get the item you need.
And also, Jon. He only asks or says randomly stupid, retarded things like "Can I help?" or before the last level, "Let's challenge." HE. DOESN'T. DO. A. THING.
You have a time limit at every level. It's next to 'MAX'. Your time is below 'TIME' which starts to count from 0.
Good job Towa Chiki, you should have made a timer in SMB style. Also, your POINT (missing S...) is pointless (epic? No.), because there is no high score screen at all.
Gameplay gets a 0/10

Graphics:
This game is ugly. I cannot say it looks nice. The 1988-released SMB3 is way ahead of this pile of messy codes in terms of EVERYTHING. Garfield doesn't really look like the real thing, Odie looks amazingly ugly, Jon is uglier than ever. The levels are somewhat boring and crappy looking.
Graphics get a 2/10

Replay value:
No. No other endings, only "Congratulation boys." "It was easy". THAT's the ending, then the credits roll.
1. Engrish kicks in with the missing S at the end of the word congratulations.
2. Garfield is over egoistic, cause this game is ridiculously hard.
Replay value gets a 0/5

Ending:
I mentioned it above. I hate the ending by passion.
Ending gets a 0/5

Controls:
A is to jump, B is to shoot, Select to select the weapon. That's it. There is a 3 to 4 tenth second of a delay which makes the game even worse. It could have been the BEST part of the game if the delay wouldn't exist.
Controls get a 1/10

Overall:
I don't recommend this game to anyone. Never play it. Never even think about playing it. Never even think of thinking about playing your mind playing this game. It surely is a brain killer machine from Japan, including a comic-strip cat. Really hard, not challenging and stupid.

Let's see the scores:

Storyline: 1/10
Sound effects: 1/5
Music: 2/10
Controls: 1/10
Gameplay: 0/10
Graphics: 2/10
Replay value: 0/5
Ending: 0/5

Total: 7/60 ~ 12/100

I remember this abomination of a game. Did Towa Chiki think it was a good idea to make it so that items, powerups and everything else appear randomly when you randomly jump? No. It's apparently a dumb programming decision and possibly the dumbest ever. Garfield looks hideous whenever he walks and jumps. And in my video of it, Skie once said that Jon looks like he's on crack, or whatever he said exactly :P

Good review, except the rating's incorrect.

Change them all to */10, add, and you get 8/80 --> 1/10 --> 10/100

Yeah, that game really sucks. I played it myself (on emulator, of course). I don't know what the creators were thinking when they made that POS game... they probably haven't watched the Garfield cartoons to get the right idea. Excellent review anyway, SpaceNinja. :)
