Ordered another Warré hive. :thumbsup
This one is made from Cedar (the best wood for hives), and I`ve wanted one of these for a while.
It has a very robust floor with built in varroa screen (to catch varroa mites that fall off the bees).

This hive doesn`t come with observation windows, but I will modify it and add rear windows.

That's a beauty! Will it take long to build & deliver Trev?

It`s from Thorne`s - the biggest beekeeping supplier in the UK. I expect they`ll have loads of them ready built, so it should be here pretty quick.

The hive came yesterday. :thumbsup
Its a nice chunky robust looking hive. They have made some changes to their original design. The handles are chamfered (to let the rain run off) and they have increased the size of the alighting board to almost the full width of the hive.

Looks great and strong too.. do you leave the wood natural or coat it in anything Trev?

I painted my other hives with Cuprinol Shades. (non toxic stuff - pale white).

The cedar looks so nice on this one, I`m thinking of using a mixture of beeswax and linseed oil.

I was thinking it would look nice to keep the wood look :)

Yes I think natural wood finish would be nice..
Started work on the observation windows today. I was hoping the boxes would be screwed together, and I could unscrew a panel and cut out the window. Instead they are glued and nailed (very well) which means I have to cut the windows out of the boxes as they are. Drill and jig saw job.

It will be good to see bees in it when its done.
