I am sorry to tell you all that we have indeed lost our Chris. Below is the text of an email reply I received from the vicar of his local church.

RIP Christoper G Lane, friend.

Dear Ray

I am very glad indeed to hear from you tonight, though I'm afraid that I must pass on some bad news to you! Sadly, Christopher died last week and his funeral will take place at St Mark's tomorrow at noon, followed by a committal at 1.15 at Lancaster Crematorium. I appreciate that it is unlikely that you will be able to attend but if you have a message that you would like me to read at the service then I would be pleased to do so. I'm very sorry indeed to be sending you this news but I am glad that God saw fit to put you in touch with me before his funeral!

I will check my emails later tonight and then before the service tomorrow just in case there is anything you would like me to share.

Regards

Rev. Cindy Rigney

PS. His family speak warmly of the importance of his online community to Christopher.

Dear Rev. Rigney

I will try to contact some of his online friends before tomorrow, however time is very short indeed. I would like to thank you so much for news of Chris and if I can not get back to you in time with a joint message from his many online friends could you please say that - there are many people, literally from all around the world, that counted Chris as a friend, not only in the virtual online world of the Internet but because of his humour, common sense and humanity, that always shone through in his postings, in the very real appreciation of a good man that we were all proud and privileged to know.

Thank you again

Thank you Ray for passing on thoughts of Chris`s online friends. I`m glad you managed to get a message before his funeral.

Chris has always been there on the boards as far back as I can recall.
For me I will remember him for starting Happy birthday threads. His long distance truck driving before his retirement. His passion for a flutter, his level headedness, his sense of humour.
Another one of the good guys has passed.

Amen to that Trev. I read Ray's post on Pubsteerers and it brought tears to my eyes. I think it must be 10 years I've known Chris on various boards. I echo what has already been said and can't think of anything else to add. We have already missed his daily posts and his passing has left a big hole in our lives, I feel. Thank you Ray for posting the sad news and for passing on our respects. You put it very well.

R.I.P. Chris it was a pleasure and honour to know you.
