Today I finally got round to trying contact lenses. It is something I have wanted to do for years, but I am very wary of anything near my eyes so I thought I`d never manage to put them in. Today I bit the bullet and am now sat here specs free. I had a nightmare at the opticians when they said you have to put them in and out twice here before we can let you take them home. It took a while got them in ok after a few attempts, but taking them out took ages.I guess I`ll get used to it. It is amazing to get full peripheral vision back. |

Told you so Well done mate you will never ever go back to wanting to wear specs again apart from when your eyes are tired. Give it a few more goes and you will just chuck them in mate, you wont even blink. I once spent 20 minutes trying to take mine out after a night out with a load of friends, after a while my mate informed me i had taken them out ages ago I wear 2 weekly lenses which you are supposed to throw away after 2 weeks regardless of how many wears they have had. However when i had my last aftercare check the optician ask how old they were and i say oh these are really old mate, about 17 days old, i was not binning them knowing you needed me to come in a worn pair. He then went on about they are 2 weekly lenses for a reason etc. but said they were a good fit and my eyes were in great health, i could even read the bottom row of the letters. What i didnt tell him was the lenses were really 30 days old and still comfy and seeing as he had just given the a clear bill of health ill stick with what i know and keep wearing the buggers until i know they are no longer in a fit state. |

I have never had any problem sleeping in any pair i have had. I have had mine in for 3 days solid more than once when fishing but i take some eye drops for on a morning because everything is really dry. My lenses are sold as 14 day wear or a week if you never take them out although i think the optician would go mentalist if you did it. One thing you should remember if you do sleep with them in is never ever, ever, ever, try to take them out until you have been awake a few hours as the lenses will be stuck on your eye and they will need time to rehydrate, i will spare you the details of what will happen if you try to take them out but i am sure you can work it out. |

John you know how long I have debated getting lenses, and you told me years ago to just do it. I should have listened. Out in the rain tonight without my glasses getting rained on, and night time driving in the rain was good. I am very aware of having more of my peripheral vision in focus. Its like my perceivable world has expanded a little bit. My hobbies will benefit. I can get normal cheap polaroids for fishing, and doing wing chun should be interesting now I can focus on a wider area. This is brill. |

Thing is Trev telling someone to shove something in their eyes isnt to everyones liking, it isnt till you have tried it you can see why, its like a whole new world opens up. Like you have now seen even going out in the rain is totaly different. I have worn them for 11 years and i am still amazed when i put them in mate. My problem is though my eyes got a bit worse a couple of years ago so wearing them i am slightly long sighted now due to increased strength so i just went to the quid shop for some reading glasses and put them in my carp gear. |

Specsavers gave me 10 days supply (free) to try, and my appointment is in two weeks. That means I am going to have to do 4 days without my new found panoramic vision!! I`m going to have to ring them and try to get an earlier appointment or scrounge some more lenses. Vision is great. Getting better at putting them in. Having some trouble getting the buggers out. Several attempts each eye. Does it take long to suss it out John? Which method do you use to remove them? |

4 days off out of 14 isnt a bad thing mate, your eyes need to breathe. As for getting them out i dont think there is much of a method, just nip it in your fingers and pull |

I`m doing ok with them. I went back to the shop and asked if they could either give me some more lenses to last till my appointment or give me an earlier appointment. They did both. I had my appointment a few days ago where I decided to stick with the daily lenses till I get used to getting them in and out, and then I`ll probably switch to a monthly lens as i am wearing them every day. They are a lot cheaper online! |

Trying some continuous wear lenses this week. Basically you stick em in and leave them 24/7 (I think for a month)? I`m trialling them for 2 weeks. They`ve been in 4 days and I have had to briefly take them out once so far. Optician told me the "normal" monthly lenses are getting better all the time and its ok to sleep in them a few days a week too if I wanted to go for that option. |

My lenses (Acuvue 2) are fortnightly for daily use or weekly if you use them as continuous wear although i have found with a good cleaning regime they go for about double the recomended time. I have used them for 4 days at a time when fishing but the longer they are in the more protein build up you get, the more kacky they are on a morning and the quicker they wear out, dont forget lenses are made of hydrogel and are constantly sucking moisture from your eyes so if you are doing extended wear use some drops just to give your eyes a break and ensure the lens is still sliding about. Never ever take them out if you have just woke up in them, you will pull the front of your eye off and then you wont be able to wear lenses for a week or so. My eyes also need a day or so from wearing them even when i only wear daily, your eyes need to breathe and its a good idea to let them do it from time to time. |

Right. I`m still not sure about them right now. Its nice to wake up without having to put them in but my eyes do get tired, and I can really feel them in my eyes sometimes and get the urge to take them out. Those fortnightly sound like they might be better for me. |
