Another of the infamous mintTools...
mintBackup is a little applet that simply backs up your Home directory.
You can choose to exclude any file or folder and you can choose to include any hidden (.) directories that reside in your Home folder.
Hit the Backup button and the whole lot gets archived and placed in your Home folder. You can then copy or move this backup for safe keeping.

Simples!

I hope it doesn't end up chasing it's own tail :lol Trying to back up the backup. Actually, it would be better if it copied the backup into a designated drive, partition, folder. Maybe in the next incarnation :)

Each backup gets a unique label (including the date of creation) so it doesn`t overwrite. They say they want to keep it very simple (like the other mintTools). Rather than a fullblown backup app its just a quick simple one click type of thing.
There`s a lot of potential with this though. They could add the option to save somewhere other than Home and maybe it could be possible to "restore" using the same interface.

I was reading about the possibility of adding a "rollback" feature to mintUpdate and it was suggested maybe the mintBackup applet could be used for this.

Actually I think being able to rollback updates is a brilliant idea. Its not an easy thing to do though as all kinds of config files and stuff can get altered after certain things get updated.
I would like to see it happen though. I would have thought a script could be created at each update (maybe hooked into synaptic?) that you could use to rollback part or all of an update that may be causing an issue.
