Guess this post is aimed at you Gina (and it serves as a reference for me). Getting this printer set up in Mint turned out to be easier than previously with Ubuntu. I went for the previous method of installing the pipslite source driver from Avasys. It wouldn`t compile from source, so I went back and downloaded the pipslite drivers as a .deb GDebi called out a dependency libltd. so I found a libltd.deb and put that on first and then the pipslite .deb installed fine. Here`s the procedure..... The required libltd.deb I got from here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/en/hardy/i386/libltdl3/download The pipslite drivers .deb from here: http://www.avasys.jp/lx-bin2/linux_e/spc/DL1.do (Select Epson Stylus Photo PX700W/TX700W,Artisan 700 near the bottom of the page. Fill in the survey bit and click next) The package is "pipslite_1.4.0-5_i386.deb" Install both debs. I saved and copied the PPD file ( http://blog.vacs.fr/images/eksppx700w.ppd ) to /usr/share/cups/model/eksppx700w.ppd. In Printing (Control Center) I chose New printer and my printer was shown on the left with its location IP. Double clicked and followed the wizard taking the defaults. I didn`t get the option to point to the PPD or choose the model from a list as in Ubuntu?? Its a simpler wizard with just a couple of pages (see edit below - I think this basic wizard is for first setup and you need to then go into your printer to change the model and ppd)The print test page produced a perfect print over wireless ![]() Edit...Actually although this setup printed perfectly I didn`t get all the options need to print to envelopes and cd`s etc. I went back into Printing and changed the printer, this time I got chance to select the model TX700 from the list as in buntu and point to the PPD after that. I added my customized CD label print script into Gimp as before and printed two DVD`s perfectly

I just noticed that with Mint you get a funky ink level monitor ![]() Not that it matters to us now with CISS `s, but its another nice plus for mint. As you can see I`ve used a titchy bit of black

Thanks for posting that Gina. Its nice to know the ink monitor is working. Can you confirm that the ink monitor is working only after installing in Mint, or do you get it with Ubuntu as well? I don`t remember seeing anything before. |

I have never ever seen the ink display in Ubuntu - any try to see what the ink levels were produced a message saying the data wasn't available or just no way of even getting that! So YES this is new! The only way I had before of checking the ink was to go to the printer and look on it's own screen. ANOTHER PLUS FOR MINT Of course, once I install the CISS it will no longer apply, I presume.

Well you can still keep an eye on your ink use (at least what your printer says you are using). I think with a CISS the printer reports the ink use and the levels go down until it thinks you have run out and need to replace your carts. Restart the printer and it thinks you have replaced the carts and will then report them as full ![]() |
