Yesterday I revived an apparently dead laptop. It had Vista and wouldn`t boot. After rescuing the system with a Linux Mint pendrive I managed to get to recovery console and revive Windows. The system had NOD32 (v2.7) and Vista Security Center was complaining about NOD32 reporting to Security Center in a format no longer supported?? Nice one MS. Anyhow the NOD licence was due to expire in a few days so I removed NOD and replaced it with Microsoft Security Essentials. Thats a biggie coming from me innit? ![]() |

Mind you, if MSE works alright, why not?! At least it's free Then again, an OS should include virus protection!

I have changed my approach to computer security. If you are going to use Windows you might as well use MSE. You may still get infected with malware - spyware, trojans, rogues etc. but that`s the nature of the beast If you are really concerned about avoiding malware - don`t use Windows...... Simples

Trev given that me and you seem to be nothing more than a free version of the PC World service center i 100% of the time go for the easy route now anyway and providing they are legit MSE is the easy way for an AV Scanner cos it is the simplest one i have ever come accross. |

I haven`t done much with MSE except install it and let it run its first scan. It looks simple and straightforward enough. There`s a little app that might be worth sticking in your toolkit in case MSE screws up. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-microsoft-security-essentials-with-fix-mse-utility#more-4384 |
