SUSE Linux became openSUSE in 2004 when Novell acquired it. Its nice. Very professional look and feel to it. Nice fonts and compiz is on with various effects, (cube etc) ootb even on a live cd. Not sure about the default green theme, but thats easily changed. It uses what I call a "control center menu" rather than the heading and list type of menu. Yast control center and the yast package manager look interesting too. Not had chance to play much but I would say this is definitely worth downloading the live cd for a look. |

I am still playing with SUSE using a live cd. Its got some really good features and it feels very professional and rock solid. Its very quick and responsive too. YaST is a lot slower than Synaptic, but I like the way it works. Downloading repository lists and stuff like that is good. Because the menus are control panel type menus with labeled icons, it can get confusing in so much as there`s a main Control Center and also the Yast control center listing categories like "Hardware" and "System" etc. Some of the apps and functions listed in each are the same and some are different. Its odd. Overall I`m liking it. Still I`m going to run it off the live cd and not doing an install just yet. I could stick it on a flash drive I guess. |
