I think it's more "do-able" than that Wine/USB patching/compilation job - now that's systems programming type stuff. I have done that in the past in a small way but the complexity is too much now. Things like AWS software can be split into a number of modules, each quite basic in itself, which are then linked together to make the whole. I have written several data collection, processing and display applications in the past. It all depends if there are suitable library modules already written that can be used or whether certain thing have to be coded from scratch. Device drivers can be tricky but hopefully, USB will already be sufficiently covered. And ftp or other method for network data transfer.l My most ambitious amateur application of the past was bulletin board reading/writing/posting software for the purpose we are using now but that was before the internet and web took off and my software was totally overshadowed by MS Internet Explorer. Boards were then all private concerns (with a few exceptions) run on someone's private server hooked up to a phone line. The software would dial the number for the server and connect directly by the PSTN and be picked up by one of several modem lines into the server. When the messages had been up/down loaded the line was disconnected and messages read off-line. These messages were held in a specialised database in their threads. Should add - upload and download of files was also covered. Edited by Gina, Dec 27 2009, 09:54 PM.

I have a plan for a Cumulus replacement Of course, to implement it all will require quite a number of modules but I've already found a lot of useful stuff. I also expect to incorporate webcam capture and website display. There's a webcam capture Python library. And I've found USB and ftp modules/libraries. A simple version should not take too long. Adding the various history data tables and charts will take longer.
