The roll out of the new EPG started on the Amstrad boxes today so no matter what box you have you will get the new EPG now (this means you can manually put ITV HD in as well BTW)

Depends, if its thomson, pace or samsung you will but you will only get a thomson if you get a refurb and you should be getting a new box. If its in a brown box tell the installer to bollards, you want a new one which will be in a sky branded box. If you get the brand new Amstrad box then you will get it but if you get an Amstrad like mine you will get it overnight at some point in the next few weeks. |

Can you force the update John like with older boxes do you know? (power up with backup held down). |

If you force the update it will just install the old EPG again (if you are doing it on an Amstrad) because that is the latest box wide stable release. |

Ah well. I`ll have to wait and see what the installer has in his van. Reading around it seems the Pace are rated the best boxes followed by the Samsung ![]() I used to work with a sky installer and we often got asked for a certain make of box. We never had a preference and found most boxes worked ok. None were better than others. |

You usualy find the best box is the one the person owns thats telling you what the best box is. I have to say i cant tell a difference between any of them LOL |

No I can`t. We have had a Grundig box for years and its been a good box. It sticks sometimes and needs the power pulling to reboot, but apart from that its fine. I was going to ask the guy what boxes he has in the van but tbh I don`t care as long as it works. |

I have heard people say Pace is the best and then go on to say they have it on a timer to make sure the box is powered off and back on again over night to make sure it doesn't lock up Thomson's self destruct as the PSUs fail, Samsungs have a problem with the remote not responding and the Amstrads cant change the contrast over HDMI (although with the new EPG this is fixed) but the picture quality on them all is near enough the same to make you happy. My personal opinion of the Amstrad is it is rock solid needing less reboots than the other boxes (3 times in 5 months), its very quiet and it is the easiest box to change the HDD on. Despite my fears of getting an Amstrad there was no need as it seems like a good box and because i know even the Amstrad is a good box i would have no reservations about using any of them to be honest. Keep your fingers crossed you land one of the new Amstrads which are smaller and have a 500GB (split 250/250GB) HDD in it mate. |

Sky guy came and had a look and said can`t do that today. He wanted to re-site the dish coz the old one is hard to get to, but he didn`t have the T&K bracket he needed to mount another dish ![]() I`m waiting for sky to call to re schedule the install. |

Best thing is he is going to have to get to the old one to take it down and remove all the old single feed coax, he sounds like a dick. |

He might have been thinking to just yank the old cable and leave the old dish ![]() Anyway Sky didn`t ring back as he said to re book the install so I rang them. A week Wednesday. We`ll have to wait and see what happens then.

I didn`t understand it at first look, I`m a sky+ noob for a start, but it looked very modern. I noticed it has some tabs to get through the menus rather than backing up all the time which is a good idea. Also I believe it remembers the channel you were just watching previously so you can just go straight back after a shufty somewhere else

The current EPG is the same as the one on the regular sky box and it is cobblers i think, it looks tired and when it does come to the + bit it is crappola, page after page of scrolling to find owt LOL |

Tomorrow for the Amstrad by all accounts Trev so no matter what box you get now it will have the new EPG on it. |
