That should keep a few Windows users happy for a while Just the odd scattering of Mac and other OS software. Just Firefox for Linux, which is usually supplied in the distros anyway

If you filter the results by OS, there`s actually quite a lot of Linux software listed. True much of it can be had via your package manager, but there are things like the latest KDE package and latest firefox, numerous tools and office apps as well as several distros and other multiplatform apps and games. 15 apps per page and I gave up after 20odd pages. Loads of Linux stuff: http://downloads.theregister.co.uk/browse/new?license=all&os=linux |

I stand corrected - had a quick look through and that was what I saw. Going to the opticians soon

tbh Gina I did the same at first. i thought well that`s handy for Windows. I was actually looking to see what mac software was available. BTW I did upgrade my Firefox to the latest 3.5.4 "Shiretoko" release after seeing it on that site, but I still used Synaptic to do it

Not really. Other than I expected it to replace the older version and instead it installed alongside, so I needed to create new links to Firefox 3.5 in /usr/bin/ I have had an issue of the older FF locking up in UE 2.3. Its frustrating coz you don`t expect that sort of thing in Linux do you? Its only occasionally, so I don`t know if the new version has fixed that. Of course FF3.5 is the default version in Karmic. |

Yes, I've had problems with FF too, particularly in the 64bit version - which is why I'm running the 32 bit UE 2.3 on my AMD64. I'll be installing 9.10 soon. Probably on the laptop and wait for the new UE version for the AMD64 desktop. Only thing is, when I tried installing the test version of KK I had problems with multi-boot with the mix of grub versions. So I've only tried it recently from USB stick. Grub2 has not been perfected yet but should be by the release of U 10.4. I get the feeling that the very high stability of Ubuntu/FF has been allowed to slip slightly recently. Hopefully, by 10.4 we will be back to the very high standards previously set. P.S. Shiretoko is the name they give the development version of Firefox. Edited by Gina, Nov 3 2009, 09:53 AM.
