Karmic Koala is out on Thursday............That came round quick! Not in any rush for it myself. Running Jaunty on one system and the Jaunty based UE 2.3 on the laptop. I`m more interested in the next LTS release Lucid Lynx 10.04 |

Yes, time doesn't half fly!! That's for sure. I haven't had much time for testing this time but I have updated sets of 32 and 64 bit, desktop and alternate versions. However, it looks at present as if I won't get around to installing KK until the final release, 9.10, is out. My Ubuntu website needs doing too. So much to do - such little time!! I have had a lot extra to do over the last few months with my OH being poorly. Not only the extra job as carer but also many of the jobs he would normally do. But he's steadily getting better and hopefully things should improve and give me more time for myself

I tried running KK from USB stick but I'm not happy. Firstly, I think the new start-up screen is pants - then after running for a minute or two, it crashed. So I rebooted into 9.04 UE and left it. I'll have another look later. May install the full release when it comes out (should be Thursday) and report back then. I know there are a couple of half finished new bits in this release which should lead to an improved product eventually. I think we may have to wait for Lucy and see if that is more Lucky! Anyway, if I don't like 9.10 I can always stick with 9.04 which is OK in 32 bit. As long as the things I want work, I'm not too bothered. |

I have the release edition of the 32bit/64/bit and Desktop/Alternate variations of KK = Ubuntu 9.10 but so far only as files on HD - not even on USB stick yet. I'll get round to it sometime, For one thing my Ubuntu website ought to be be updated. So much to do - so little time! |

I upgraded the desktop pc. Dunno if its any quicker at boot up than Jaunty. Might even be a bit slower ![]() Everything seems ok. I wonder how easy it is to revert to Jaunty if i don`t like it

I think you'll need to reinstall the OS to go back a version (downgrade?). Then reinstall any extra apps. Keep your home partition, of course, then your desktop and panel links will work with the reinstalled apps and you should still have the settings for those too (I expect you know that ).

Yeah. Actually I think you can con the system to "upgrade" back to Jaunty by editing the sources list and then doing a dist upgrade, but from what I`ve read its not recommended. I`m going to leave karmic on the desktop machine until UE 2.4 is out and do a clean install with that. |

Sound a good plan ![]() I think changing the sources list back to jaunty could cause problems with version matching of some of the libraries, but I'm guessing really. Upgrading that way for testing a new development version (before the first alpha comes out) works because very little has changed at that stage and version numbers are going up rather than down anyway. I'm hoping I might have time to help with the testing of Lovely Lucy I'm hoping and indeed expecting, to see some good advances and improvements in the next version.
