Gina can you help me editing that script fu CD label script?
The script works fine, makes a perfect CD background and the CD mask lays over and it prints fine.
I just want to tweak it so that is can do full face CD`s.

I need to narrow the inner diameter and also tell the mask to do the same.
I`ve opened the script up and tried editing this and that. Its not a simple outer diameter is this, inner is that.
Its all ratios of eclipses etc and I`ve no experience with re-doing code.
I tried to make a new script for gimp (based on the original) "Full face CD Label" which gets added to the menus ok, but I get an error on trying to launch.

I'll have a look at it Trev. :) Haven't tried it yet. Should be possible to work it out, but I can't guarantee anything, of course :lol

OK progress report...
The good news:
I have found the line that needs editing to change the internal diameter.
Changing that figure also changes the CD mask accordingly :thumbsup

eg. Changing from 3.1 to 4.1 gives a narrower diameter center.

The bad news:
I haven`t figured out what to set it to to make the exact size needed for a full face label
When I try to save the amended script in a different name. It adds to the Gimp menu, but errors on launch. (Obviously if its saved in the original name it works ok.)

Are you REALLY saying that INCREASING the value gives a SMALLER centre?? Otherwise I would say measure the centre diameter (in centimetres) and put that in. EDIT - I measure it at 2.2 cm on a bought DVD film.

I suggest re-naming the original file and using the original name for your edited version. I've often had to do this when editing control files - the file-name is a fixture. eg. with grub menu.lst.

Yep. Increasing i guess is increasing the ratio of the outer circle to the inner one ?
It just a matter if measuring the effect of this change, which can be done with the calipers in gimp.
Just a question of tweaking now

A bit further...Now I have two items in the Gimp>Filters>Script fu>Misc menu
CD FF Label (my altered script for full face CD`s) and
CD Label (the original script).
I think I just need to register the new script with Gimp properly. I guess I need to edit a Gimp config file so it recognises the new script. I just don`t know where that is.

Been looking into this........

Downloaded the gimp script and put it in the appropriate folder (took the file name from the URL). Ran gimp and got the template and mask all OK :) Then thought I'd print a sample on plain paper so followed your instructions for selecting the paper size. Guess what... No 5" CD in the paper size list :( Also in the Print dialog the paper tray settings are greyed out :(

EDIT.... YES I did select the right printer!

I did print out on A4 - which was a disc the width of A4 paper, of course.

Ah....I think you need to change make and model in your printer configs like we mentioned before.

Yes. I'll try that tomorrow.

Ok after sleeping on it, I have come up with the elegant solution.

The original script has an option for a mini disc label. So I`ll change (resize) the mini option for "normal" sized labels and the standard CD option a full face labels.
No need to have two scripts and no need to change lines in the script that stop Gimp from launching it. :)
Nearly there...

Yes, good idea (if it works) :) The mini DVDs centre and the standard DVD are both 2.2cm. My camcorder takes the mini DVDs. Pity they cost several times as much as the standard ones :( They could be very useful.

Regarding printer drivers, you can select from the list or specify a PPD file but not both. I presume the PPD file is configured specifically for this printer and that's why I get the correct model shown for the driver (I chose to use the PPD file). I'll try using the list instead of the PPD file we downloaded and see what happens. Can always change back - I presume.

A bit later...

Interesting... Selected TX700W driver from list in place of the PPD file and get the same as you :) Furthermore all the CD Label printing options are there, plus many more paper size options and ability to choose upper or lower paper tray :) I also noticed "Envelopes" in the paper list :) So maybe I can print on envelopes. I'll experiment later.

When you say DVD centre are you referring to the disc labels centre hole diameter or the actual discs centre hole?
In the Gimp (default) script, if you tick mini in the options you get a much bigger label centre hole.

I have changed the Script again and I think its pretty much there now :)
The line that needs changing in mine now reads:
(if (= mini TRUE) (/ diameter 3.1) (/ diameter 5.1)))

As you can see the first diameter (which changes the mini option) is set to 3.1 which makes that what the original diameter was if you didn`t tick mini.(in other words a normal CD label)
The second diameter changes the standard (non mini) disc centre. I have it currently at 5.1, but havent tried printing a disc with it yet so that needs tweaking.
Once you`ve edited the file save and open Gimp and/or refresh the scripts:
Filters>Script Fu>Refresh Scripts

Then its Filters>Script Fu>Misc>CD Label to do a full face DVD label or tick the Mini box for a standard size label.
In the main menu Script Fu.Utils>CD Mask (to overlay the mask before printing) is the same :)

Re printer drivers - Dunno about the need (or not) for the ppd? I`m not even sure if/how it is used :shrug
You cracked it though and thats all that counts! :thumbsup Well done.

Thanks Trev :) I expect I'll set up a direct link (well via router) to printer from my laptop and try without the new PPD file. Sometime :lol

It was the centre of the label I quoted. 8cm and 12cm discs have the same physical centre hole. They need to so the 8cm discs work in 12cm drives.

OK its all done! :)
Those script edits are working fine. Just one extra setting I found when printing...
If you don`t tell the printer you are doing a full face print it will still print a standard label even if you have used the full face option in Gimp.
So in Gimps print options in the advanced tab select print to hub and there`s also a setting for adjusting the hub size. Just did a full face label with a hub size of 18.3mm which looks about perfect. :thumbsup

Oh I almost forgot I emailed the guy who made the script (Akkana) asking about how it worked and how to change the sizes, and he replied with a really nice email explaining the ratios and how to change them. I`d already worked it out by trial and error, but nice of him to reply and try to help. :thumbsup

I just ordered some of those verbs that John recommended from SVP.

OK - I've ordered from SVP. 50 pk DVD-R, 50 pk CDR and 10 pk 8cm DVD-R :) I decided the mini DVDs were relatively good value. I've been using DVD-RWs and reusing them but there are advantages in keeping the original camcorder videos.

Should arrive Tuesday with luck. Wasn't in time for despatch today.
