The 160GB available for use is absolute kack, with 4 in the house all wanting to record the drive is full in no time and it seems like an endless cycle of watch and delete or you cant record what you have series linked etc. If you dare to record something in HD god help you cos it eats drive space faster than a rat down a pipe.

Anyway i have made the decision to sod the warranty and i have ordered a 1TB drive for it so ill let you know how i get on (although looking on the net it doesnt look too taxing ill be honest)

That sounds like a much better bet John :) 160GB is tiny for video recording! I presume the system will support a 1TB drive? But you'll have checked that :)

Yeah, let us know.
if and when we get plus I would imagine the same will happen here, and the 160gig drive will soon get full.

No it doesnt if the truth be known but you can use a little app (copy+) so the box recognises it and will happily use it all. If you ever need to do a hard reset though the box will default to 500GB but i cant see a reason for doing that.

It doesnt help cos the box comes with a 320GB drive but 140GB of it is reserved for skys use, thankfully though this stays at 140GB no matter what size drive you put in it :)

Providing it works ok the box should go from being capable of recording 20 to 30 hours of HD to around 100 to 120 hours of HD, i dread to think how much SD content but it will be a lot.

Mythbusters and Dealiest Catch for me, 12 episodes of Mythbusters and 17 episodes of Deadlist Catch at 8GB a time for the latest seasons is more HDD space than SKy give you to start with :(

Looks like I might have to replace the HD in my main TV recorder, it's not recognising it as present :( :( DVD seems OK though I haven't actually tried playing a disc yet - got other things to do. I think it's a 500GB drive - 250 hours recording time for standard TV in SP mode. It's quite a few years old now but that's no reason for failure. Might be something simple, of course. Anyway, that's yet another job to add to the list, for when I have time!

If it is a few years old then i would hurry up cos IDE drives seem to be vanishing off the market pretty quick, Ebuyer for instance have a single 500GB drive and all the others they have are smaller right down to 80GB so i would preume its just old stock. i would say that 250 hour record time is a 250GB drive as well mate (although i could be wrong) our old TUTV PVR had a 160GB drive in it and was said to do 160 Hours of TV, now its got a 500GB drive in it and it never seems to fill up :lol Trev has my 160GB PVR drive now cos i had no use for it so i gave him it LMAO no use for a 160GB HDD!

Yes, I agree, IDE drives do seem to be getting scarcer. I'm not sure about the HD size - or the number of hours recording for that matter. I use LP mode giving 4 hours on a DVD. Quality is not noticeably any worse than SP or direct from Freeview.

Amazing how things have changed in such a short time. isn't it! My oldest currently working PC is about 10 yrs old and originally had an 8GB drive :lol Now we're talking about a hundred times the size and more!

I may check out the recorder later today. I also plan to get PC recording going again sometime, now that I have a digital feed from PC to TV and can get decent a picture on the TV.

I remember going from a 20MB HDD in my Amiga to a 850MB one in my first PC and it was like i would never fill it :lol

I just got an email from Ebuyer saying my drive had been dispatched which is good cos i picked free delivery and expected it here on Friday.

Absolutely!! My biggest is 1TB :lol If I get to set up TV recording in my AMD64 I might well put a 1TB drive in that, in time (to supplement the 500GB) - got plenty of space and 3 free SATA connections free. At the other end of the scale I have an 8GB drive in the ancient AMD desktop which still works :lol

I might swap some drives around and put something bigger in the old heap (I have a 250GB IDE drive in the P4) and see if it runs faster :lol No I don't mean putting the 8GB in anything :lol The P4 also has 2 160GB SATA drives.

NO STOP!!! Can't afford it!! Well, not ATM. Anyway, a nice new wireless printer is higher priority :lol

Even my PS3 has a 320GB drive in it because the 40GB one Sony put in it just didnt cut the mustard LOL
