Had the printer a few days now and have to say its a brilliant printer. Just done a couple of dvd prints and the quality is really good. Previously I have had to use printable labels. Its much better and easier to print directly onto disc. Just got to get a CISS for it now and I won`t have to worry about buying cartridges. |

Mainly to keep Gina informed, and anyone else who might want to use this printer (and possibly other direct to cd/dvd printers) under Linux, and just because I am so pleased with myself... I got it to print onto a printable DVD under Ubuntu using GIMP with a script fu script. ![]() Just save THIS SCRIPT to your .gimp-2.6/scripts folder. (note, this is a hidden (.) folder in your home directory). Open GIMP then under Filters go to Script fu>Misc>CD Label This gives a blank cd template. Create your cd/dvd label with images, text, etc, then on the main menu go: Script fu>Utils>CD Mask to overlay the cd/dvd mask. To print go... FILE>Page Setup and make sure your printer is selected from the drop down menu and then choose 5inch CD from the Paper Size drop down and Apply. Then... FILE>Print. In the Print options Page Setup tab select Print to CD from the Paper source drop down menu. Thats it! Stick your printable cd/dvd in the printer and hit Print

Been looking around the web and find Amazon seem pretty good (as usual). About 11 quid for a 25 cake of TDK DVD+R discs. Anyone have any recommendations of either make or supplier for DVDs (and maybe CDs) please? ![]() Maybe this should have a thread of it's own. Edited by Gina, Oct 1 2009, 05:53 PM.

Thank you Trev ![]() Now unpacked but not set up yet. Been reading the manual. No mention of printing envelopes - have you tried that? OTOH there are some very useful features I hadn't even though of in addition to others I had thought of ![]() I'm really a bit premature in buying a new printer We are in the process of changing rooms round which I'm expecting will give me more room for computer stuff Meanwhile, I have less space as one room has to be emptied and the contents stored before moving stuff from the other room into it. So finding space to set up this new printer is a bit of a problem. But I wanted to make sure of getting this model at a good price - many times in the past I've missed a good deal by not acting quickly enough.

Yes, I`ve missed out that way too. At least with this printer you can put it anywhere as you don`t need to cable it to the pc. I don`t print on envelopes, but I have printed onto Avery sticky labels in the past and plan to with this printer. Easy, as they come in A4 sheets and there`s a setup for printing them in O.O. word. The sticky labels are good for sticking on anything from letters to CDs as well. I use the cardboard CD/DVD Mailers for posting cd`s and dvd`s and you can just stick a label and a stamp on and post. |

Unpacking that printer was a bit of a pain. Pieces of that tape holding bits here and there. There was something in the paper tray that I nearly missed as well that needed removing. A bit of plastic stuck with that blue tape with a paper attached showing to put it in the bin? Dunno what it was holding still? but it confused me. lol |

Yes, I've used sticky labels in the past. But generally I only want the one for the letter I'm sending off - except at Christmas when I print sheets of labels for cards. With my R245 I found it easier to just take the paper out, reset the paper guide to the envelope width and bung an envelope in. Printing envelopes in OOo WP is easy

*****!! lost my message.... oops sorry ![]() I was saying about the seemingly dozens of bits of blue sticky plastic tape, strange square of white plastic to just throw away as you mentioned - very strange... Oh and that odd looking yellow thing with two small compartments that wanted moving from one place to another, wonder what that's for. I was exhausted after all that
