If it's copied from original filmstock it should be alright, after all it looked pretty good in the cinema. Even 35mm half-frame has better resolution than HDTV and most of these films were made on wider filmstock. |

I've been looking on several websites to see what's available in BR format. I'm afraid I haven't found much I would want. So I'm thinking of postponing getting Blu-Ray for a while - not much point in paying a ton or so plus 20 quid for a couple of BRDs. Probably get one or two more DVDs instead - should generally be better quality than Freeview. I have a few DVDs of varied quality already - some worse than recent DTV broadcasts. |

Yes, I noticed it was £100 off Might have gone for that if the offer had been on when I got mine. OTOH you can go on saying "only another fifty quid" Good you got a tenner of the cable - brings it down to a more reasonable price

About thirty quid I think They can easily afford to knock off a tenner! £6 is about the best price I've seen anywhere and there was postage on top of that. Got mine quite locally when shopping for animal feed etc. at Mole Valley Farmers (farming supermarket) for about a tenner. I was quite surprised to see them there - I was looking for floodlights at the time

Yep. It was a £30 cable. I bet I wouldn`t notice the difference if it was a £100 cable. |

No! One of the techy TV progs - forget which one now - did a test with the cheapest and a very expensive one and found no visible difference. With digital, it either works or it doesn't and unless you're forever plugging and unplugging cables (not recommended) there's no problem. They said the high price for HDMI cables was just a con - because the picture quality is so good people tend to think they need very high quality leads and things and the suppliers are just cashing in. |

You wouldnt notice the difference if it was a 5 quid tesco one mate! Over very long runs which are going to be embedded in to walls etc. then i would pay more but i think that comes with the length anyway. |

if your telly is a 720p one Gina you may (and i stress only may) have problems with it displaying correctly. The chances are it will be spot on but sometimes you just cant get it to fit no matter what you do. |

Graphics card does 1360x768 so it should be OK. When I connected my ancient AMD K6-2 desktop I found the card only did 4:3 formats so used 1024x768 which was adequate. Just a pity if couldn't use the whole screen but it's 10 yrs old (or more) so to be expected. Can't replace GC as there seem to be none available nowadays that will work with such an ancient MB. |

Just ordered Belkin HDMI to DVI cable from Amazon at just over £16 - PC World and Maplin wanted fifty quid for the exact same item - what a difference!! While at Amazon I also ordered Band of Brothers 6 DVD box set at just under £17, mainly as a present for my OH. It's based on the US paratroopers who flew from our local airfield here (Upottery) for the D-Day landings. We've watched a couple of episodes on the net and it looks very good. Bit of a strain to watch any more at the quality available! It was a ten part series broadcast in 2001 on BBC 2 - 10 episodes of 70mins. |

Cable came this morning and I have it connected between my P4 and TV ATM. 2nd screen res set to 1360x768 and working fine. I haven't got DVD playing software installed ATM - I'm running a reinstalled Win XP (for my weather station) and didn't reinstall any other software (except AV). The lead just reaches. I'm thinking I shall swap positions of my P4 and AMD64 so that I can run the telly off the AMD64. The latter is running Ubuntu and it has a nice new nvidia 9400 series graphics card One day I might sort out VB ![]() The DVDs came yesterday and we watched the first two episodes of Band of Brothers. Excellent! Terrific action shots and acting - the most realistic war film I have seen. And great with the much improved picture quality ![]() |
