Checked out the DVD player in the kitchen TV last night - both with a commercial DVD and one I recorded from DTV. The results were most impressive - it's the first time I've watched a DVD on a digital TV. Also last night, Tim and I watched the same programme, he sat in the kitchen and I watched the old CRT analogue one fed from a DTV box via SCART. The difference in picture quality was very noticeable - on the DTV set the blacks and dark tones were black/dark and visible - on the analogue set they were all the same shade of grey! I know the reception on the DTV recorder is good because it was a DVD recorded on that that we watched on the kitchen set. This has convinced me to get a DTV set for the lounge as soon as I can. Been looking at the various websites and thinking of a 32" Samsung at £350 (ish). I have 2 Samsung monitors which I've been very pleased with. So far the Technica from Tesco seems good but it's early days yet. My DTV recorder has an HDMI connector so I shall be able to have a digital connection to the TV. Just need an HDMI cable. |

Yesterday i was looking at the TV we have ordered in Currys and ill be honest i could not tell the difference between any of them, they all looked great no matter what brand you were looking at. I would get it from John Lewis no matter which one you pick mate just for the 5 year warranty My 23 inch 1080p Monitor is styled exactly like this http://www.johnlewis.com/230562551/Product.aspx and ill be honest i cant knock it.Only problem you may get Gina is the bigger the screen goes the worse freeview will look. DVD is not a million miles away from HD TBH and all tellys now upscale the image to fit so you are sort of looking at a pseudo HD when watching a DVD. I bought this http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/531278/LG-HT503PH yesterday and i cannot believe what a difference it makes, it is amazing |

Thanks John That's certainly a better deal than Comet or Currys My newer Samsung monitor (1680x1050 22") is the same style too. My DVD/HD recorder does upscaling to HD - hence the HDMI port I've never tried it yet though. That looks a nice piece of kit you've just bought

The upscaling is a right con (and yes i bought a Sony DVD upscaling DVD player LOL) the tellys all have scalers in them and more often than not they do a better job than the player

Have to see. I could get a TV with DVD included - the Tesco one - at the same price. But my gut feeling is to go for a Samsung. |

my 50 inch plasma arrived today and i also put the 37 incher on the wall in the bedroom. The plasma is astounding, the picture quality is stunning and HD on a 50 incher is uber impressive. |

Its on a glass stand ![]() TBH it is only about 8 inches longer than the 37 incher, its just higher and has less plastic around the screen. Playing wipeout HD was starting to make me feel sick because it is right in your face now LOL |

I've taken the plunge and ordered the 32" Samsung TV from John Lewis ![]() Can you give me an idea of how long they take to deliver, John? I know they say up to 5 working days but most firms seem to be a lot quicker in practice

They game me a number of dates to choose mate but for me the soonest one was nearly 2 weeks which is all you need innit They were very good though, they even rang before hand to make sure we were in. You will love your new set Gina but when it comes dont be surprised if it is bright enough to burn a hole in your back wall LOL |

OK John - thanks for your reply Just have to see how long they take. I'm hopeful for a speedy delivery - they have them in stock In many ways I prefer to just go and get things but John Lewis with their free extra 4 years guarantee was such a good deal. And if they ring before delivery, that just about covers everything

I think mine was only so long because it was specialist delivery, it was a 2 person job. If they didnt give you a date to choose i am guessing it will arrive at the soonest available slot

Now just waiting for delivery There's a tracking website but no info there yet. That's not uncommon. I've often had goods delivered before the tracking site has any info ![]() Certainly will do Trev
