Same one as i have although mine is branded as a Hansspree (this set was retailing at a shade under £650 at Christmas 2007).

Freeview performace is acceptable but if you have a good analogue signal that will looks better. HD performance is spot on using a PS3/Blu-Ray, it looks just as pleasing to the eye as my mates Panasonic plasma or my brothers LG, admitiedly theirs do look sharper on the PS3 text but i have the sharpening right down on our telly, it looks a mess too sharp i think. On a 37incher you do not need 1080p so do not think you are missing out, you need around 50inch at least to even start to notice a possible difference.

We don't have analogue TV here any longer and when I feel the urge to spend money on a new TV to replace our 32" Toshiba CRT WS jobby I'll want a digital one with HD option. Probably 37" or so, yes. Could certainly go bigger - this is a fair sized room (18'x12').

On the subject of digital TV - since the power was upped at switch-over our Channel 5 picture is poorer. Maybe the set-top box is getting overloaded :lol Maybe time to downgrade the aerial :whistle (or get an attenuator)

It's adequate but guess I'll look at it sometime. Lots of other stuff to do. The list just seems to get longer :lol

Here is a write up on 720p v 1080p just in case anyone was thinking about getting that cheap 720p TV :) http://reviews.cnet.com/720p-vs-1080p-hdtv/

Thanks for the link John :) Interesting... seems opinions are divided as to whether 1080p sets are worth the extra - with some even saying they're worse on lower res sources. I think I'm confused :conf :rolleyes :lol

Dare say if you sit six inches from the screen you could see the difference :lol But unlike PC monitors, TVs are usually watched from half a dozen feet or more (children excepted :lol )

Even in days gone by it was said you needed a 50 inch telly to even start to see the benefit of 1080p and that seems to have shifted to 55 inch now and then it seems you need to be at the most 8 feet away to even possibly see a difference. I have read articals saying there is no chance a human eye can resolve the detail in 1080p and they used medical eveidence to back it up but we all know with the right kind of evidence you can get anything to do what you want so i am not going to 100% back that either.

It really does seem to me 1080p is a sales buzz word to shift tellys, there just isnt a clear enough case to convince me otherwise.

Normal DVD is 576 non-interlaced lines I think, and that is noticeably different to 720p (HD signals on sky). I only have a couple of 1080p BR discs as yet but there is definitely something about them which is different from the sky picture. I'm not sure I would say "sharper" but definitely looks different.

42" Panasonic screen @ 9-10'.

I see :) "Different" but not "better" :lol I currently watch a 25" Toshiba WS CRT screen at around 9-10' and currently the max res i/p device is DVD. However, I'm thinking of upgrading to a bigger screen - LCD WS and HD compatible - and connectable (???) to my graphics card. Also considering a BR player/DVDRW drive for PC. Needs a bit more pension accumulation in the bank first :lol Need to cut down a bit on other spending! :whistle

I think DVD looks infearor to 720p as well but you are still with in the realms of what you can see i guess.

As for skys 720p v a BRD i woulld put that down to the BRD being a higher quality source although saying that some BRDs are encoded worse then DVDs and look terrible LOL

When i put my PS3 to 1080i it looks different to 720p as well and i would put it exactly how you have put it TBH but i would add i dont think i can see anymore detail, it just looks different LOL

My 37incher is going in to the bedroom as me and the missus have just ordered a 50inch LG plasma for our 21st wedding anniversary :D (it is also 720p and as a consequence 300 quid cheaper than the 1080p version)

Very nice :) :)

Our kitchen TV - A Goodmans 20" WS LCD DTV model - has stopped working. When you come out of standby using the remote it turns on for a second or two then goes back to standby. Guess I shall have the back off and see if anything strikes me :rolleyes It's out of guarantee now. I've tried switching it right off and disconnecting the mains power but it still does it :( My nice new lounge TV looks even further away now! I'm not holding out much hope of repairing the LCD set :(

I had a look inside the back of our kitchen TV and was none the wiser!! All connectors are glued in place so can't work loose - you also can't get anything apart! Decided I was on a losing wicket and went out and bought a new TV from our local Tesco :lol It's a 19" and a bit more compact than the old one - seems fine so far. Also has a DVD player which will be useful.
