It occured to me the other day that I didn't know much about the forthcoming Home for the PS3... Unfortunately due to CoD4 I haven't really had the time to investigate it further either ;) ... One of the problems we are experiencing is the lack of friends that you can have, i.e. 50 max. Will Home address this? I saw some early screenshots and there were loads of people in a lobby type area, it occurred to me that you could probably have many more friends in that lobby... |

UPDATE FROM SONY 27/05/2008 16:00 Brand new virtual events venue unveiled in Home on PLAYSTATION®Network Home, the interactive 3D world for PS3™ users, hosts the virtual re-run of PlayStation Day 2008 in its new Media and Events Space Last week, PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) users experienced all the sights, sounds and action of PlayStation Day, the product showcase held on May 6th in London, from the comfort of their living rooms. The online event was held as a test-run of the new PlayStation Media & Events Space, a virtual arena that will serve as the live entertainment hub of the thriving PS3 online community, hosting everything from new game unveilings to sports events to fashion shows. Attendees were drawn from 10,000 PS3 users who have been test-driving Home as ‘closed beta’ users. Given exclusive VIP entry to the Space, they were greeted by an impressive, large-scale area dressed with various elements from real-world PlayStation Day, including the iconic hexagonal branding and artwork from each of the day’s PlayStation zones. Users were able to explore the Space, experiencing highlights of the day such as a photo gallery of games developers and a jumbo screen of the day’s speeches with an introduction from Kazuo "Kaz" Hirai, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Sony Computer Entertainment. Users were also able to enjoy a video stream of all the action from the real-world PlayStation Day experience. The online Media & Events Space can be re-dressed and re-branded just like a real-life venue. Following the test event’s success, Home will now start scheduling more elaborate and exciting productions for the Space, which will be available for use by both first and third parties. “As well as looking great, the Media and Events Space is flexible and user-friendly - it’s a real focal point for our virtual community. This was a very exciting first event and we’ve already received plenty of great feedback,” says Home producer Martijn Van Der Meulen. Home is now well of my radar, they aren't doing an open beta till the autumn i believe! with a full release probably in 2009!!! I would have thought all the active users on there forum will get first dibs on the open beta, then it will fall over and not be seen until 2010...sorry i have lost love for this with all the delays :( Although it looks wicked and will be interesting to see. I won't get excited now until i see it downloading of the PSN! |

same here really - sounds good but im not really sure it will enhance the ps3 experience (not for a couple of years anyway) whats with the alpha and beta testing thats done on the ps3? we still keep getting games with bugs in them like cod4 and gta - why are the bugs not spotted during testing - thats what testings for! |

When my wife saw the Home thing... she looked at me and asked if i was gonna get it? I said that it would be a download and most would get it.... She just shook her head, very very slowly.... I know i spend enough time on the PS3 anyway.... this could be another distraction form the games though..... Not sure if tha's a good thing either..... |

Heard some interesting chat today. We were talking to Sony about their marketing plans for Home. Apparently they aren't going to launch this until there are enough people online to warrant the investment... which isn't the case yet! Looking at Spring 09... |

Indeed fella, and they will tend to be straight up with us about this sort of thing. Still, things change (although usually later rather than sooner!)... |

i just get the feeling that as soon as it does get released the bloody network will go down anyways. hope it turns out ok tho even if it does look like a blatant rip-off of second life,( which of course it isnt because sony dont copy other companys at all, sixaxis gimmick nothing like a certain other companys motion sensing thing is it LOL )

Ha! Nice one Demaly. I'm not fussed. Looks a little gay to me with photos and all that crap. I just want a really good useable invite / chat facility just like my dust-gathering 360! |

exactly, Home is regional so were fooked!! as advertising and such will be different for US/JAP/EU markets, and although we will be able to have friends from different regions into our 'houses' and personal spaces we won't meet any yanks in the community areas (which is a good think IMO) but means we also won't be able to access an Beta or promo's that come out in other regions, and will just to wait till whenever they bring europe into it :( |

slightly disappointing that we cant be included by downloading the theme but we might get a chance if you happen to be one of the most active on the psn in europe. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/08/07/want-into-the-playstation-home-closed-beta-test-heres-how-to-apply/ |
