Just had a new staircase put in which is v.nice :gr8: The stairs are located in our living room which is open plan into the dining area (through an arch) so i have a big space below the stairs that needs filling with a cupboard/shelves/storage beneath. We could just get a giant sideboard but really fancied something different and a bit more modern and if possible something that followed the line of the underside of the stairs. Does anyone know if such a thing exits (if you understand what i mean above - lol)??? There is something shown in the NEXT catalogue at the mo but it isn't a product they sell - its just how they have dressed the room. Was trying to avoid getting something custom built really but want something of good build quality and not some naff veneered chip board. Help!!!! :vmad |

Don't rule out having something custom built. We had a gap at the end of our kitchen units and it worked out cheaper to have something custom built for the space that it was to buy 2 more kitchen units, which wouldn't have fit the space properly :gr8: |

not totally ruling it out but it means finding someone who will do that spot on job you are happy to look at every day cos its in the living space and without seeing any pics of anything thats available or what people have had done its difficult to know/describe what we want..... custom built is probably the best way as you'll have something that will fit and look perfect and make the most of the space. Custom built stuff need not cost much more than stuff from Next which is quite costly. Don't expect Ikea prices though. Expect to pay £400-£500 depending on type of wood you want. Oak & walnut is very expensive If you gave dimensions and a picture i could whip up a design for you. If wanting it built so long as dimensions are pretty close to being exact i could get it all made and shipped to you and you just put it together. Instructions would be included of course. |

cheers cutter it would be worth it to get some ideas of someone if nothing else (what do ya do by the way?) ;) i'll find me trusty tape measure, open autocad and see what i can produce dimensionally - watch this space - LOL ps only mentioned NEXT as that is the only place i have seen a photo or design of the type of thing we were looking for - have never bought from there cos as ya say its a bit expensive..... ......i just pointed out to the missus that its about time we co-ordinated the types of timber in the living area :$ the new stairs are Hemlock by the way which is the cheaper version of oak as far as i know, no knots so i have just beeswaxed it cos its colour changes naturally over time in the light. |
