Original thread by The_Rascal: Hi Guys, I thought I'd add this topic for any 'Technical Stuff' that you may need help with. I think we've all experienced the invitation problems and server issues that have been doggin us for a while now, so after a bit of research and prompted by a few posts, I decided to try something. That something was putting my PS3 into a DMZ - De-Militarised Zone - on my router. This has been mentioned by a LMZF member somewhere else on these forums, but I couldn't find it yesterday. Anyway, I'm rambling again, here is a link the the PS3 forums where the procedure is described. Linky It's not too scary, but if you don't understand, just post a reply and I, or someother kind soul, will try to help you out. I tried to get access to the online mode in the Burnout Paradise demo on Friday night, as I could see racingsnail was on there. However when I tried to connect to his game, the game kept thowing errors up at me about and told me to check my router settings. Tried again yesterday, after doing the above, and it seemed to work OK. With reference to COD4, I hosted games for at least two hours last night, and with the exception of my PS3 resetting itself - twice (apologies to the guys who were pobably left in limbo) there were no issues at all. (Apart from the 'not able to score points in a private match' issue ) So if you're still reading this, well done you , I think it is something you should consider doing. posted bt potukxystus: first off as a matter of everyones safety.. DO NOT PUBLISH OR DISCUSS YOUR IP ADDRESSES, PASSWORDS OF ANY KIND ON AN OPEN FORUM!! oh and if you haven't already done so, I always strongly recommend you change the default password for your router: for example, anyone who has a netgear router username default: admin password default: password all anyone needs to access it is your ip address and some commonsense..... basically what happens is that all security for the nominated ip address(your ps3 or whatever) is turned off. any who with a port scanner can access these types of machines, so it is strongly recommended to avoid doing it if you buy stuff online using the dmz'd machine |

Pot again (I think) this is off the infinity ward forum: "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - PS3 Multiplayer Guide This guide will give you helpful tips and suggestions on the best way to set up your router and PS3 Network settings for the most optimal online performance. If you are having any problems connecting to games, matchmaking, or playing online in general then please read this guide carefully and see if there are any changes you may need to make to your PS3 Network Settings or Router. -Step #1- The first step is to test your PS3's Internet Connection via the PS3 dashboard, to do this go to: Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Test Once you're in (Internet Connection Test) it will run a test of your connection and display results for the following: Obtain IP Address Internet Connection PLAYSTATION Network UPnP* NAT Type* Check whether an IP address has been obtained. Check whether a connection to the internet has been established. Check whether you are able to sign in to PLAYSTATION Network. Check the status of UPnP (Universal Plug and Play). Available: You can use UPnP. Not Available: You cannot use UPnP. Disabled: UPnP has been disabled in the network settings of the PS3™ system. Check how the PS3™ system is connected to the Internet. This information can be used to judge the ease or difficulty of connecting to other PS3™ systems when using voice / video chat or the communication features of games. Type 1: Connected directly to the Internet Type 2: Connected to the Internet via a router Type 3: Connected to the Internet via a router With type 3, it may not be possible to communicate with other PS3™ systems, and voice / video chat and the communication features of games may be restricted. In this case, see [Connecting to PLAYSTATION®Network] in this guide. * Displayed only if a PLAYSTATION®Network account has been created. -Step #2- Now that you have run the Internet Connection Test, this will help evaluate the situation. If you notice your NAT is Type 3, it notes it may not be possible to communicate with other PS3 Systems which is essential for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in most cases as we use P2P networking for matchmaking. If your results are less than desired in the Internet Connection Test, here are some helpful things you can do to open up your connection a bit for your PS3. If you are using a router try one the following: UPnP Enabled UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) allows the game to automatically open the proper ports on your router that the game requires to use for online play. If you are playing behind a router that supports UPnP and you wish to use the UPnP feature of the game, your router must be properly configured. Please see your router documentation for more information on configuring this. Your Internet Connection Test should have displayed status on your router's UPnP. If you do not have a UPnP Enabled router or this does not yelp, you may try to manually open the ports required by the PS3 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Matchmaking, to do so: Set port forwarding on your router to your Playstation 3. Open ports 3658, 3478, 3074, 3075 (UDP) and ports 80, 443, 3074, 5223 (TCP). If you are unable to manually open ports, or open all the suggested ports, a final option would be to set your Playstation 3 into the DMZ of your router. This will set it outside the domain of any Port blocking and should allow the game full access to any necessary ports required for Matchmaking. If these fail, disconnect your router and connect your PS3 directly to the Internet and try the game. If it works regularly at this point something about your router may not be completely compatible with the specific needs of this game. Check with your router manufacturer for additional steps that may need to be done to resolve the issues you are seeing. NOTE:If setting port forwarding or DMZ helps your gameplay you may wish to assign your Playstation 3 a static IP address inside your home network, this will help ensure that the configurations you made do not need to be redone. NOTE: Many broadband internet modems are coming with routing capability built in. Please contact your internet service provider to determine if your internet modem has an integrated router, if it does they should be able to assist you with the steps above for setting up a router." here's the direct link: http://www.infinityward.com/community/forum/index.php?topic=9413.0 also eu connectivity patch information here: http://www.infinityward.com/community/forum/index.php?topic=6712.0 Oh and 'Error 33 - Cannot Connect To Activision Matchmaking' here: http://www.infinityward.com/community/forum/index.php?topic=6712.0 have fun.. |
