there is an easy way to get the board to load the pages faster that not everyone will be aware of.. so here it is. at the top of the page is the main menu. click on the word 'preferences' there you will have a set of links to various board options select 'board settings' remove the checks from Show Signatures Show Images Show Avatars this removes all images from the page for you and will significantly speed things up. as an alternative, remove sigs only as they are generally the main reason for slow page loads.. hope this helps those with slower pc connections feel free to comment btw mark |

Apart from the images, everything should be pretty quick, even on dial-up! Minus the avatars etc this page is like 210kb odd, which is pretty hefty actually! I've got the standard LMZF skin and the pic of the guys playing baseball with the mortar is almost a quarter of the pages size - almost 60kb!

I think it must only be me then. I know I have a pretty lame pc but it can be quite painful for me to load pages on here compared to other forums and some posts are a nightmare, the old spam post could take between 40 and 6o seconds to load up ( I used to think that it was something to do with all the hot air coming from Flogit that was causing the problem). I am going to try the changes in preferences that Pot mentioned in a previous thread to see if that helps |

the site is running quite a lot a javascript for menu repositioning now, so I don't know at this stage whether or not its an issue with it.. |

another tip a way around the large number of images is offline storage also known as your internet cache. this is a folder that resides on your hard drive which holds images etc of sites you visit. once you visit here, most of the images will be stored on your hard drive, so the next time you visit it should lift most of the images from your pc rather than requesting them again. increase the size of the folder by doing the following for firefox: tools - options - advanced - network tab -offline storage set it up beyond the default 50mb to around 300mb this should more than cover here and any other sites you visit regularly internet explorer instructions tools - internet options - general -temporary internet files - settings amount of disk spaceto use -set to 300mb check for newer versions of stored pages - every visit to page(default)- this will slow things down a bit but setting to automatic may speed it up |

Okay, here goes... Today (now), Not so bad 1-2 seconds per page, adding a reply 4-5 seconds to load page!, portal page 2-3 seconds! Yesterday, 3-5 seconds per page, adding a reply 10-15 seconds, portal page 7-10 seconds (worst ever)! In general it's not too bad, at times though it slows to a crawl. Not sure its all down to this site though, as I get speed issues with other sites too! From around 3pm onwards I always have an internet speed issues (I'm at work). |
