just one point though due to the bandwidth that good quality video needs, its best to hard wire if possible |

Handy tip #2 If any of your files are in .mkv format - they will not play on your ps3 even if you stream them thro tversity. Do a google search for a free program called MKV2VOB, this'll convert your MKV files to VOB files (same as the files on a DVD) and then share them in TVserity and watch away... doesn't take very long to convert either - I did 11 episodes yesterday in about 8 mins - picture quality AND 5.1 sound stayed intact if you get stuck post here or PM me on the link in my sig :) |

dead simple gaz. basically your ps3 and your pc are connected to the same router. The router acts as a 'bridge between the two so that movies, music etc that you have stored on your pc can be watched/listened to through your tv. once you install tversity program, you can right click on any folder or file and select -share with tversity. this will then get added to the menu on your ps3 under video(or music) then tversity media server. all you do then is scroll to what you want to listen/watch and off you go! adds a whole new dimension to ps3 it was one of the many reasons for me buying one in the first place - the main one being COD4 lol Edited by potukxystus, 27 May 2008, 06:14 PM.

Have to add this is one of the reasons I think the psp it fantastic! I think I only realised it could do this thanks to these forums, just hadn't got around to checking out all the features.( see it wasn't just built for gaming!) Also love the ability to put in mem stick (60gb?) and copy photos on.Oh and stream your music files from ps3 ( easy on through window media player) I have used TVersity and downloaded loads of files to watch on tv through ps3, I use wireless and quality is fine too. Also you can use the media share option through windows media player. I use Utorrent and try and stick with avi. files as I know they work with no probs. Ask away on here if you get stuck, I am sure someone will know the answer. |

Not sure what tversity is like, as I use Windows Media Player 11 to stream all the content on my PC to everything in the house (this works for my two PS3s and a 360). There's a great guide on how to do it here: http://news.softpedia.com/news/PS3-and-Windows-Media-Player-11-Media-Sharing-Tips-75291.shtml Haven't had any problems so far, but I do tend to watch content on my media center PC rather than stream it! |

Get it setup Rich, I used to run a pc video lead to my tv and then mess about with the driver to centre the screen and it was a whole load a messing about. WMP or TVersity work fine, I prefer tversity after Mark pointed me to it tho, and haven't looked back since :) Might just have to pick a PSP for that satnav type prog that is coming out... |

don't use any 'external' programs like tversity, as its crap. Sorry! I just share windows folders on the network and ps3 picks it up, plays tunes, movies perfectly! |

BLF - check your windows firewall settings (or other firewall) and make sure that tvsersity is allowed to pass through... |

this is another way to get good results this is to allow tversity to logon to xp so the service can run without you logging in. to set it up use the following instructions: start-control panel-administrative tools- services scroll down to - tversitymediaserver and double click select the 'logon' tab select 'this account' in the first box type .\YOURLOGINNAME then enter your password for logon in the next two boxes then ok it this allows the media server to run as soon as the pc is switched on and will run whether your xp login is on or anyone elses works a treat |

I'm pondering on the idea of having a network drive (or three), how easy are they to configure so the pc's and ps3 can all use them. Have read of nightmare stories of getting them to work. Ideally i would like each of them to be 1 TB, so i can have 3 or 4 TB's tucked away in a cupboard. |

Should be easy enough Stu... I'd thing the easiest way would be have them all on a router - get a gigabit router instead of 100mb one thou, that way you'll not be bottlenecking the data transfers when streaming videos of them... not sure how much they are tho. If you were to use TVersity, you just add the folders on each drive that contain your media to it and the PS3 will pick them up :) Edited by The_Rascal, 6 Jun 2008, 03:44 PM.

How steady is the stream with tvsersity? I've tried media plyer 11 and am now using nero's media stream thingy but it takes ages to even list my music files and another age to start playing a track! I've also had issues with freezing during video playback. Any such issues with this program? |

@ cuttertree It depends mate! You could buy a couple of external USB drives, plug them in your PC, then share the disc in WMP11 or TVersity and so long as the PC is switched on and the PS3 is on the same network, you can stream things from it. Another way would be to buy NAS drives, bit more expensive (about twice as much mind), but you plug them in to your router and there's no need for the PC to be on then. Personally, if you're thinking about having a handful of terrabyte drives, I'd future proof it and think about building your own media server. Pick up a barebones system, stick some Samsung drives from ebuyer in it (as a rough guide, £40 = 500GB, £60 = 750GB, £100 = 1TB), and as a very basic solution just install XP and share the discs. If you wanted to go a step further, you could look at installing something like FreeNAS on it, but it depends how comfortable you are techy wise! @ paul_d How is your PS3 connected to your network mate? Even using wi-fi you shouldn't really have any problems streaming an mp3! |

I thin kit is a Nero issue, I used WMP11 before and it was loads better than nero is! I only swapped because I don't use wmp for music on the pc and could'nt be bothered sorting all my music in wmp after haveing already done that in itunes! Downloading TVersity now after trying nero and it not finding any tracks!! |
