Wrote this a few months ago for an English assignment, tell me what you think! Guide to the Gates The snow follows me to the ground, fickle flakes falling all around, My footfalls make no crunching sound, nor do they leave any imprints found, By any man or mortal ‘round, daring to walk this forsaken ground. The scene is permeated by sadness profound, a swirling mist seems to surround, The last gleam of light I could have found. Silently she lays there, a victim of her own despair, On her lips an unanswered prayer, in her eyes sympathy so rare In such a cold and violent affair, I could have saved her I swear. Her eyes are a tainted ocean, tears sliding down in a cool motion Anger is my sole emotion. Now her soul raises from the ashes, before my eyes her life flashes, Tales of all her broken clashes, into the afterlife she crashes. And the mists have now grown, chilling her to the bone, Her eyes are a cool stone, as before the gates she is thrown. Before the judge her sins are shown. Now she is ordered to stand, before the white stained gates so grand, Her life’s tapestry at its last strand, as she lets go of my hand, And walks through the gates of the Promised Land. |
