Her hand reached far down into the large workboot that she wore, Clarissa dug down deep as she tried to reach the knife that she knew was kept there. She could feel it even but her fingers didn't seem to want to grab a solid hold of it at all as she stared up at the sky through the leaves of the tree where she sat. The fields needed to be tilled and work needed to be done but there were plenty of others around to do that and she needed a break. Just a small one, maybe a tiny nap. It seemed fitting, it was her heritage after all to laze about when work needed to be done. She was simply living up to her name.
Finally grabbing onto the small paring knife, she pulled it out and grabbed hold of an apple that hung nearby, picking it from its stem and rubbing it against her shirt until it shined. Sliding the knife past its red flesh, she cut out a slice snacking on it as she listened to a bird that sang nearby.
Little by little, she whiddled away at the apple as the sun began to sink in the sky nearby until that was left was the rind. Dropping it down to the ground below her, Clarissa swung her legs over, climbing down from her hiding spot. It was a good hour's walk to the encampment from here and she'd be lucky to make it by nightfall as long as she had procrastanated. Taking off her hat, she used it to fan herself as she moseyed alongside the dirt road, humming the tune the bird had been singing moments ago.
