Kaden was a fighter, a warrior, a member of the 4th Kingdom Armed Forces...but there was more to the man that his duty to the kingdom and the king. He was observant, a trait needed in both battle and daily life--a judge of character with keen eyes to what was happening around him if only to prevent being taken off guard. Not only did it not bode well for his training but Kaden truly despised surprises--even if they came so often out in battle. He hated not knowing what was next, not being in control. He had been around the castle that day with the sole purpose to return with news of the recent spotting of the troll army. As far as the military force figured it, they were still near the southern edge, groups of knights pushing them back on a constant basis. But it was as he was leaving that something caught his eye--something he didn't expect to see. Kaden paused at the top of the stairs he had been descending that led into one of the gardens surrounding the castle. He had taken a double take and watched patiently from his perch as she spoke with another woman, almost heatedly so--Kaden recognized the second woman vaguely from the battle and a hint of a smile came to his face. It was only once the second woman had disappeared from her side that he descended the stairs the rest of the way and moved through the polished stone path into that particular garden. "I imagine there is a certain bull--perhaps a fly--that needs a good swatting." Kaden said simply as he approached her only slightly cautiously. If only because he knew what damage this woman was capable of and didn't wish any of her skill to be turned on him. He had heard from a group of particularly ruthless, gossiping Ladys of the court that Jasella was not welcome in the fourth kingdom no less the castle. Although Kaden didn't entirely believe their embellishments of the story, he took the factual base for truth as it normally was--if only skewed. "Do you think he won't notice?" Kaden challenged elusively a moment later, eyebrow arched and a humor filled smile on his face. He had no intention of reporting seeing her to the king--if only because it seemed, to Kaden, such a minuscule thing in comparison to all that he had to deal with. Even if the king himself would consider it otherwise. |

Jasella hated this palace. She hated this kingdom. She hated these very gardens. She hated Josephine and she hated Wendell more. All of these things were one in her mind. She would not be in the very predicament if one didn't attach to the other in some way. She wondered if she could ever like this place - if it wasn't all a reflection of that which she'd experienced and been forced to endure regarding the 4th Kingdom. A jaded perspective and a jaded experience made it loathsome in that moment. She knew none of it was real, rather later when she was back where she wanted to be she would reflect on it and realize that it was only a matter of the circumstance. Right then though she wanted to complain, at length, to Belle. Which she did - vehemently. The girl took it for her; as she was her friend that was what Belle did for Jasella. Though Belle was also amazing at stopping Jasella from overstepping her bounds too; meanwhile Jasella, tried at least, to be a good friend to Belle in return. They had a family, if not sibling, like relationship. Jasella swung at hearing the voice. She had been as careful as she could not to be seen - but inconspicuousness was not Jasella's strong point. In fact, unless in battle, she saw no reason to remain hidden. This was horrendous though; first being in Josephine's shadow - and then making decisions for the girl; of which she'd already made many. Wendell still thought they'd come from the dim wit's head. AT this point Jasella had been passed off as one of two servants who'd come with Josephine. As she was considered a servant she never had to be seen at formal events where Josephine went. But that was hardly the point. The pride in Jasella demanded that was being recognized for that which she had done, she was certainly not being recognized for any of this. "Both!" She shot at him with fire in her eyes. "Flies and bulls are in need of it - I know two right now that could use a good beating." The truth was Jasella, even if she shouldn't be (seen at all), was glad to see Kaden. A friendly face was always welcome and this man was one of the few respectable and decent ones that she'd met in all of her lifetime. His next words had her lips pucker slightly. It was a point of contention and a sore spot to her. She didn't want to be unnoticed - quite the opposite so it only made it all that much more aggravating. "Honestly no; I could probably attend dinner and he wouldn't notice...well, if I chose to behave in the manners of the other spine-less arm decorations that claim my gender but certainly not my species." She amended the second half of her statement. "Regardless! I have no care if he does notice." She lied as she waved a hand. She realized after the words spilled from her mouth that he might be able to call her bluff so she pulled her arms over her chest; folding them there. "Alright I would care, but not for the immediately obvious reasons." The last thing she wanted was sent home aggressively to be scolded by the queen. Thus far she'd done a find job of staying tucked away as well as counseling Josephine. It then dawned on her that this man might have a duty to his king to tell - should he know she shouldn't be there; of which it was obvious that he did or his question would have been pointless. She was not a beggar - but she knew she needed to find a way to ensure he would not tell the king. Second she considered that perhaps a hooded cloak would suit her. "You've noticed, do you think he will?" She needed to first feel out the waters to find a way to avoid pleading with him to not tell the king of her presence. |
